1992's "Brain Donors" with John Turturro. I absolutely LOVE this movie.

don't know why no one ever mentions 'Novocaine' with Steve Martin and Helena Bonham Carter. Kind of a black comedy/thriller, but a great movie that's always overlooked.

No one mentions it because it's underrated.

And I agree...great movie. Good thing, or perhaps a sad thing, is you can often find it in five dollar bins these days because the movie didn't do so well, but the price is certainly not a reflection on the quality of the movie.

Whenever I read a thread like this, I end up grimacing at posts written by people whose definition of "underrated" differs so substantially from my own. It takes all the fun out of it.

I understand this issue is my own. I am dealing with it.

How about Airplane?
I feel this movie was grossly underrated as PG here n Australia when it should have been rated MA15+. What with the boobies, loads of sexual references shirley you can't let children watch a movie like that.

I've seen Kentucky Fried Movie mentioned, but for my dollar, I prefer:

The Groove Tube
Tunnel Vision

and since that made me think of Chevy Chase, I'd like to add:

Modern Problems
Foul Play
Seems Like Old Times
(paraphrased, since it's been about 10 years since I've seen it):

Chevy (to bad guys, as a passenger in their getaway car): "Guys, I think I want out of the gang..."
Bad Guy #1: Ok, go ahead and get out anytime you want.
Chevy: Any chance of stopping the car, first?
Bad Guy #1 (laughs)
Chevy: Any chance of slowing down to 55?
Next shot is Chevy, being thrown out of the moving car.

I just caught Van Wilder again today, and it still holds up as being hilarious.

Nude women. Clowns welcome.

One of my favorite comedies. My dad actually took me to see this in 1990 (probably was the first R-rated movie I had ever seen, in the theater at least).

I remember judging this movie by the title and assuming it was going to be horrible, but boy, was I wrong.

And another underrated one, IMO, although non-ZAZ:

Airplane II: The Sequel (a rather good sequel to the original, unfairly slammed for continuing running jokes from the original - apparently some people don't understand the concept of "running jokes" - and it's highlighted by a good Captain Kirk spoof from William Shatner from before he slipped into non-stop intentional self-parody mode)

Re: Underrated Comedies

Trial and Error (I remember when this movie came out, I saw a lot of commercials, it got pretty good reviews, but now no one ever talks about it. Like it fell off the earth. Weird.)

Re: Underrated Comedies

A second vote for The Groove Tube ("Brown 25...another one of the fine products from Uranus")

Some other great underrated comedies (some previously mentioned):

Get Crazy! (You haven't lived until you've seen Lou Reed channeling Bob Dylan)
Night Shift ("That Barney Rubble...what an actor!")
3 O'Clock High
A Thousand Clowns
The Man with Two Brains
Twice Upon a Time (funniest animated flick...period)
Up the Creek
Smorgasbord
