Sex Drive

I was pleasantly surprised at how I was laughing along with this film. Featuring a main cast of sympathetic characters in an odd love triangle that gets put to the test on a road trip in a sweet '69 GTO that starts in Chicago and ends in Knoxville, the journey that the characters undergo form the basis of enjoyable character development from the teen sex romp genre with R-rated humor and gags.
While the main cast is relatively unknown (Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crews, and Clark Duke), the supporting turns by James Marsden and Seth Green also produce good laughs. Though some of the plot development or gags are predictable, they are still executed well and the screenplay has good pacing where there wasn't a serious lull in the film for its 109 minutes running time.
Of course, the film has bits borrowed from The Sure Thing, The Girl Next Door, The Last American Virgin, Road Trip, etc., it still manages to transcend its genre roots to be entertaining without being mired in pointless silliness that can undermine teen sex comedies.
I give it 2.75 stars or a grade of B-.

Just watched it, didn't expect much, ended up laughing my ass off the whole time. Liked the cast as a whole, James Marsden was a fucking fiend in this, channeling Bill Paxton's douche brother from Weird Science in every scene. But really, this was another Girl Next Door, something that didn't seem like much at all but ended up paying off mucho. Will probably buy it in the near future.

I thought it was OK. The main character is intolerably frustrating at points though. Most unrealistic teen guy ever.

Also, I was going to watch the Unrated version first, but they had that warning at the beginning that said to watch the regular version first. What's the differences, and without watching it, if someone else watches the unrated version first, does it matter?

I got around 45 minutes into it and fell asleep and I don't really have the urge to get around to finishing it.

Re: Sex Drive
The Unrated version is basically a lark. Not only does it run an overall 20 minutes longer, but it contains more like 40 minutes of new footage, including outtakes inside the film (it pans over to the laughing crew), alternate lines of dialogue, ADRed jokes, and most of all, naked people greenscreened into pretty much every shot. The directors are right: watch the R-rated version, because the Unrated cut isn't a movie, it's a DVD bonus feature.

That's good to know. Glad I didn't watch that version first.
Also I bought the friend more than him. Confident unattractive guys can get with some great looking chicks, but you're telling me in his situation he's turning down anything?

Re: Sex Drive
Watched this tonight, one of the funniest movies I missed in theaters in a long, long time. I'm with the group that thought the marketing for this was abhorrent, but I'm glad I gave it a shot on DVD. Right there with FSM for my favorite comedy in the last year or so.

Yep! We had that problem here. My sister put it in the DVD player and claimed she followed the label accordingly. Sure enough, she was right-- the label is incorrect.

Just saw this today and thought it was terrfic. It had very high production values and surprisingly good perfromances. And it was very funny. It did not really break new ground but I definitely liked it enough to watch it again.

I cut Dave Sheridan's hair last week. He told me there's a good dvd extra of him messing with people staying at the motel they filmed at.
