Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). Probably my favorite sci-fi film of all time, and I'm not a huge fan of the genre.
EDIT: Just noticed this. Why is the crappy remake of The Blob included, and the not the kitsch classic original?

As much as I love some of the other movies, Alien truly mesmerized me when I saw it in the theater.

it is debatable whether "Aliens" is horror or not.

I chose Aliens, but if it wasn't on the list, the '82 Thing would get my vote.

As said, there are a lot of good films here... but my choice is The Fly. I'm actually surprised to see so little love for it... I think that Cronenberg's film is the most complex and haunting film on the list. Disgusting, terrifying, heartbreaking and just twisted.
I love Alien, The Thing and the '78 Body Snatchers is really frightening.
Kinda interesting that all the films listed deal with threats on a really visceral level. With some or all of the horror coming from within ones flesh, deception/mutations of the flesh and viral/parasitic like dangers.

I sent some love over to The Fly. But this was a really tough choice because the movie experiences are so varied. The Fly is more psychological terror. Alien is more suspense. Aliens, as someone else said, I consider more action than horror. The Thing is brilliant, too. Very tough call for me, but when it came down to it, some of those scenes with Jeff Goldblum in The Fly are just so horrific that they have always stuck with me. But a lot of great movies on the list!
