I never realized that Martha Plimpton was in The Goonies. I am a casual watcher. Not a big fan. Watched it a few times.
Also: Fuck those paparazzi in that TMZ video. Comic book movies are really good right now.

Being a big fan of The Goonies I don't really care to see a sequel, however a few years ago we got a very good child cast in the movie Super 8. If that kind of cast and atmosphere is captured for Goonies 2 it could be decent. I'm not suggesting it will be but I think it's possible.

Since Chunk is basically pretty skinny now I wonder if he'll go method like DeNiro in Raging Bull.

Dick Donner is a great guy...it's a shame Hollywood has more or less shunned him as a director these day (out with the old, in with the new - unless you're a Spielberg or an Eastwood). Then again, that's what happens when your last film was 16 BLOCKS.
I remember at one time he was planning a big screen version of HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL (he mentions it in passing in the SUPERMAN Blu-ray commentary - but not by name), but it never materialized.
Maybe a big hit with GOONIES 2 will allow him to get some of his other project ideas done.

And that's what Goonies 2 would be -
A WHOLE new cast of kids - hopefully up to the level of Super 8 -
The original Goonies will be parents looking for their kids. But I think for the most part, the parents will look sad and desperate. Can't imagine what Keri Green and Ke Huy Quan will bring to the table, acting-wise. I betcha Josh Brolin will sit this one out.
THE GOONES was lightning in a bottle, I'm afraid.

Goonies never say die!
After the iconic 1985 film's director Richard Donner revealed that a sequel is in the works, fans of The Goonies everywhere were doing the Truffle Shuffle out of sheer joy. But would original stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton and Corey Feldman, to name but a few, return? Donner said "Hopefully, all of them" would reprise their roles.
And now we can say that two of the original stars are definitely down to ride up Troy's bucket once more.
E! News caught up with The Goonies ringleader Sean Astin (Mikey!) at the 2014 ATX TV Festival, where he was promoting his new FX series The Strain, to get all the inside scoop on what could possibly be the most anticipated sequel in the history of sequels.
"My first thought when Dick said he was doing that was like, ‘Alright, maybe this time it's true!' I hope it's true," Astin told us. "I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don't know if I'd be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I'm sure there would be some way to work it out."
And one of Astin's fellow Goonies is also down to once again follow in Chester Copperpot's (RIP!) footsteps: Corey Feldman!
"We talk a lot. Corey and I are buddies," Astin said. "Oh, he's fired up. He's ready to go." So are we, Feldman. So are we.
Desperate for any details on the return to Astoria after almost 30 years, we had to know if the film would focus on the children of the original gang. "I think that's what they want to do. I think they want to focus primarily on the kids," Astin said. "I think the audience may be split on that, so they're trying to figure it out."
But one thing is for sure: "It'll happen, whether in my lifetime or not," Astin said.

Any bets whether they'll try to shoehorn Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi into this? I suppose they could recast Sloth pretty easily too since he's basically just a really tall bodybuilder with a prosthetic head and an easily mimicked cartoon voice.

I was just about three years too old for The Goonies. Sorry, but for kids like me who were raised on Star Wars, ET and Back to the Future, The Goonies is pretty thin gruel. It's an OK movie, I guess.

"Stand By Me: Still Standing"
I was at Walmart the other day and a dad was letting his roughly 10 year old son pick out a movie, anything. The son wanted some Dreamworks animated flick, the dad saw The Goonies (w/ Gremlins and Gremlins 2 blu-ray triple pack) and commented "I watched that one repeatedly when I was your age, if you pick it and we'll go home and watch it right now." and sure enough the kid grabbed it.
Was good to see.

I was raised on all of those movies. Goonies and Back to the Future came out the same year, and I love them both.

Re: HEY YOU GUYS! Goonies 2 a Reality?
Last year director Richard Donner said THE GOONIES 2 was a go and later revealed that Steven Spielberg developed the story. But during yesterday's appearance on Politicking with Larry King, Sean Astin was asked if there is going to be a sequel, and he said, "They want to — they're trying. They can't figure it out." King then wanted to know why they are having a problem figuring out what to do with the follow-up.
Because something special happened with that movie. I mean really special. You can't imagine how much people love this movie from the 80s, that almost doesn't hold up in terms of the quality. But Spielberg had a this magic poetry in him, and Dick Donner had this sense of adventure in him, and the two of them got together and made a movie where they let things happen.
There's things in that movie that are wrong. Like, a lot. I accidentally call one character by his actor name and not his character name. There is a sequence with an octopus that was cut out, but one of the characters refers to it in a prominent way at the end of the movie. They left it in! There was a whimsy about how they did this movie that was so full of love. It's really hard to engineer that. And, now they've got all this time to think about it. It's hard.

Re: HEY YOU GUYS! Goonies 2 a Reality?
That's a very good quote. There are a lot of things wrong with the film. Even more problems than Astin points out, but there is HEART, lots of it. And great photography and music and a really charismatic cast of kids and character actors. Attempting to even equal that film is a tall order.
