Goonies 2?
Is it ever going to happen? I would really love to see this, as I was a huge fan back in the day (and still am). It was listed on the IMDB, but a search only turned up the 1987 video game. I've heard everything from Chris Columbus being in talks to direct, that's it going straight to video/DVD, to it possibly getting a release date in 2006. Any news as of lately?

Here's a two year old interview with Richard Donner talking about a possible sequel:

I wouldn't mind seeing a Goonies 2 if it was actually done well. The question is.. Can it be done well? I don't know.
I'll withhold my judgement until I see it (if that ever happens).
Sequel doesn't automatically = bad.

I know - I should w/hold judgement, too, but I am such a lover of the first film that I don't know if I can be anything but disappointed and letdown by a sequel.

Did any one else here the rumor in a few years after the original that they had actually made a Goonies 2 with a mermaid in it, but it was no where to be found. I think it had something to do with the video game...

This should only be made if they can get the entire surviving cast memebers of the original. And the focus of the film should be on them and NOT a new batch of kids.
The goonies sequel should be aimed at the people who grew up on the original who are now in their twenties and thirties.
It would be nice to see them older, banding together once again and embarking on some adventure.
There is plenty of humor in this scenario as we see the kids as adults trying to deal with whatever perils lay before them first in a grown-up manner and then letting them revert back to some degree to their childlike ways.
The goonies were always a kooky bunch. I'm sure they'll be plenty kooky as parents, singles and hopeless nerds.
The possibilites are exciting. Let's hope it's not screwed up.

Yeah, unless the old cast comes back what's the point. I mean, that was the heart and soul of the movie. Plus, it's not like Donner is making movies quite up to spec like he used to. Hopefully this will turn out good, the first one is quite fun.

Listen guys...
Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket.

"Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog...When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out...But the worst thing I ever done -- I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa -- and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life."
