it's a cartoon...certain levels of disbelief is allowed. It's not Citizen Kane...

Regarding the trailer, lest this turn into another "Cars is great/no it's not"-thread* i have a question about the trailer -- where the hell does that boy scout come from?
He's not on the porch when the house initially takes off, nor on the porch when the house passes the girl's window. I suppose he could jump onto the porch from the building's rooftop... *although, to weigh in, I hated Cars in the theatre, but have come to appreciate its story and characterization through repeated viewings with my Cars-obsessed 3 y.o. son. |
It looks interesting.
I showed it to my four-year-old daughter - she can't wait. |
Pixar is wonderful. I'm sure this will be one of the better movies of next year. The trailer really had me rolling.
"Can I please come in?" "....." "No." They really have comedic timing down to a science. |

I bet it explains that in the movie. That's another thing I love about Pixar, they don't usually give many plot points away in their trailers.

Looks fun. Pixar movies always make me happy, and this one doesn't seem any different.

You got to give it up to Pixar. They can take a rather absurd idea and make it into something for everyone. This one looks like a winner to me.

I guess you weren't following the Wall-E thread here very closely, or are familiar with our good friend Mr. Orndorf :p
And The O rates Halloween (the remake) higher than Vicky Cristina Barcelona. |
Just saw the trailer on apple.com and loved it. As far as the little boy on the porch, it reminds me of the teaser trailers that came our before Monsters, Inc. that had Sully and Mike doing and saying things that were never actually in the movie. Maybe this is one of the cases. Should be a winner. Let's hope that there is plenty of humor for the little ones and the adults (although this may be geared for the "older kids").

Re: Pixar Animation Studios Presents: Up! (5/29/09)
This has nothing to do with 'Up', but I just read a transcript of an amazing keynote address Andrew Stanton from PIXAR gave at the 2006 Screenwriting Expo. The theme of the speech is creating a good story & characters, but there are some great stories about making their first 5 movies. The way he talks you can just tell how much he loves movies, and making movies, and made me appreciate their movies even more.
"So we'd never written a movie before, but we came in with strong opinions about what we didn't like in animation at the time, and we felt vehemently that you could build a better movie. You gotta remember this was 1992, you've got Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin. Everybody out there in the industry and outside thought THAT is what an animated movie is. That's exactly [garbled] What is an animated movie? THAT is what it is. And we didn't feel like [garbled] something much broader than that. So when we first pitched this movie idea to Tom Hanks, the first thing he said was, "You don't want me to sing, do you?" "There are some voices out there that just makes you want to animate to them. And it's not necessarily an A-level actor....So we do what I guess you could kinda call private casting calls. We'll take an audio clip from an existing movie and then we'll take maybe a character model that we're developing and we'll animate to it. And we'll put it to that audio to see how it feels. One little bit of trivia. A lot of people don't know that the original person we tried to get for Buzz Lightyear was Billy Crystal... [clip animated to Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally] HARRY Right now everything is great, everyone is happy, everyone is in love. But you got to know, one day, believe it or not, you'll go fifteen rounds over who's going to get this coffee table. This stupid, wagon wheel, Roy Rogers garage sale coffee table! JESS I thought you liked it. HARRY I WAS BEING NICE! http://rageagainstthepage.blogspot.c...t-keynote.html |

The Eric Tan artwork is amazing. I'm very luck to have some friends that work over at Pixar and I get to go to the screenings there as well as check out all of the concept artwork that will probably be in the book they release.

Re: Pixar Animation Studios Presents: Up! (5/29/09)
Pixar continue the tradition of having John Ratzenberger in every films they made. They must be fan of his character as Cliff in Cheers.

Re: Pixar Animation Studios Presents: Up! (5/29/09)
Actually it was his role as Major Bren Derlin in ESB that impressed the Pixar folks so much.

With ESB and all the Pixar movies, I wonder if he would qualify for having the largest Box Office numbers in Hollywood.

Not sure which thread is the official one, but here is a new sneak peek of Up: http://thefilmstage.com/2009/01/12/s...sneypixars-up/
Man, I can not wait for this movie. I can't imagine it being better than Wall-E but I hope I'm wrong. |
