Um, most of this thread has been dedicated to a discussion about how emotional many of us got just watching the movie. I related to a particularly upsetting experience in my own life that was shared by the characters in the film. Now, reading about the dying little girl living just long enough to see the movie has compounded how many times I've thought about the film and begun to feel a swell of emotion.

He was joking. You said if you see the word "up" you tear up...so he asked you what was "up."

Finally got out to see this with my wife last night and we loved it. Fanatastic film by Pixar, but would not expect anything less from them. One thing for sure, compared to their other films this definitely felt like more of an adult film than a flick made for kids. Also, my sides were splitting by their short flick at the start about the stork, possibly their best short yet. As for Up, I think personally I put it behind only Nemo at the moment for Pixar films.

I dunno...I got tired of Nemo. That's the one film, while a great flick...I get annoyed by more and more every time.

Is this the 1st time a Pixar movie was sitting #1, even though Trans 2 is going to knock it off it's stand by next weekend.

No, Finding Nemo was #1 for 2003 until Return of the King came out.

Kind of late to the game, but my girlfriend and I finally went to see this movie today.

Fantastic. We were not fans of Wall-E, so this was definitely a treat. Loved the heart, the humor and (as much as I didn't want to admit it) how close I was to weeping during a couple of scenes in the film.

Sorry for the bump, I saw this last night.

Incredible. The subtlety of the animation, the voice work and the story itself...Pixar knows how to make movies.

The short, Partly Cloudy, was just as excellent. More of that dialogue-less emotion animation, which I love.

Also saw the teaser for Toy Story 3, up I was like a kid at Christmas.

Spoiler:
the whole third act kinda falls apart with the introduction to the villain and the talking dogs. It seemed to bring the real story to a halt when it had to deal with Muntz. It could have done without the talking dogs as well. I thought the film should have just stayed with Carl vs. nature.
Other than that it was excellent. Very funny and very touching. I can't think of a film that got my to cry faster than this one. That montage early on is really well done. These guys are so good at what they do.

Right on both counts.

I don't care about being the town cryer so I finally got to see this tonight in 3D. Wasn't sure if it would still be around in 3D but it was.

I almost was about to cry myself. If the montage was an longer, it would have happened. Same experience near the end.

I would have preferred the movie had fewer animals especially the 'talking' variety. Either stay in the 'real' world or stay in that parallel universe where every animal and inanimate objects speaks.

The Partly Cloudy short was both funny and touching too. A good complement to Up! Catch the short if you missed it.

My favorite Pixar movie is Ratatouille but this one is right up there for that emotional tug. Wall-E was highly overrated especially by some critics (cough, cough). And I can take or leave another Toy Story.

Did the French Short Film Above then Beyond Inspire Pixar’s Up?

Today, Pixar Animation Studios released a trailer for Carl’s Date. Opening exclusively in theaters on Friday, June 16, in front of Disney and Pixar’s Elemental, Carl’s Date marks a return to the studio’s tradition of pairing its feature films with animated shorts on the big screen.

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® Award winner Bob Peterson, and produced by Kim Collins, Carl’s Date goes home with Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) and his lovable talking dog, Dug (voiced by Peterson), who were introduced in Pixar’s Oscar®-winning feature Up. Carl reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a lady friend—but admittedly has no idea how dating works these days. Ever the helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends… if you’re a dog.
