Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
after seeing the Norwegian dance band Royksopp in concert last night, I think they'd make a great soundtrack to the third Tron movie.

TRON: Legacy is kind of a huge piece of shit. It is visually resplendent, no question. It looks beautiful from start to finish. And yet, it doesn't quite engage me as the vector graphic, low-res Grid of 1982. Perhaps the obvious artifice of the original film lends it an air of wonder that the more refined, "realistic" visuals of 2010 can't replicate. Anyway, Daft Punk's score holds up beautifully, easily as striking as Wendy Carlos's work from 1982.
And Olivia Wilde makes me all sorts of funny in the pants.
Too bad the story is such a lost opportunity. The movie starts out pretty well. In fact, the entire First Act is pretty good, as far as big budget action spectacles go. The male lead -- whose name eludes me and I'm too lazy to look it up -- has the dramatic range of a wet mop. Compared to Jeff Bridges's performance in 1982, he's lifeless and milquetoast. Generic Brooding Kid with Daddy Issues 101. Too bad that once the story moves into Act II, it doesn't even GRIND to a halt, it SLAMS into a granite wall and lies mangled and lifeless for a good hour or so. By the time we get to the final Act and the requisite slam-bang action finale, there's no interest. Character, conflict, pacing, flow, it's all a mess.
The ending doesn't even feel like an ending; nothing feels accomplished, there's no sense of growth or resolution, there's just a convenient finish line that follows 1.5 hours of little more than dramatic intertia. There's some fine action pieces, and it's all fine and good, but it means nothing overall. Like watching someone playing a video game. Looks great, sounds great, at times thrilling but often dull and overall completely unengaging.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
aaaaaaaand I just watched it this morning, and absolutely loved it. The original Tron helped define my childhood, granted, always considered a second tier player to Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Gremlins, etc, but still a movie that I look back with fond memories (and concede it doesn't hold up very well).
As for Tron: Legacy, it felt more like Star Wars than the prequel trilogy ever did (and that's a good thing). I was half expecting Flynn to say "Great kid! Don't get cocky!" when Sam was using the turret tail gun. LOL.
The CGI young Flynn was a little distracting, but I got used to it. Olivia Wilde is fucking redonkulously hot, and I didn't pick up on Tron being the Boba Fettesque right hand man.
I watched it early early this morning with headphones as to not wake up the whole house, and the soundtrack was constant, and amazing. Bring on part 3!

I thought this was going to suck. I was always cold on the original, which was nice to look at, but a real disappointment. I loved Tron:Legacy. I thought it was what he first film should have been. I'm sure I am in the minority though.

I thought the movie was good. Not great by any means.
The action pieces were way better than I thought they'd be. Flynn's son is a horrible actor and should be sent back to the mannequin store.

I thought Flynn was a little too much Dude. And I wanted to know more about how he survived on the grid for so long. And is Cora is anatomically correct in the real world?

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
Discussion came up in the Rogue One thread about a remaster of Tron: Legacy with some redone effects, based on some Twitter posts. A film editor tweeted that he got to see a sneak peak of it
TRON Legacy remastered to 4K UHD and with improved de-aging CGI ? Plan8
From his Twitter feed:
It sounds like maybe it's a version prepped for a UHD/3D Blu-ray re-release?
TRON Legacy remastered to 4K UHD and with improved de-aging CGI ? Plan8
Los Angeles based film editor ‘The Vahn Man’ has tweeted that a version of TRON Legacy supposedly exists, which has been upscaled to 4K UHD resolution that is also in 3-D.
But more interesting is news that the notorious de-aging CGI effects used on actor Jeff Bridges have also been updated. Bridges reprised his role as Kevin Flynn in Tron Legacy that called for flashbacks as well as a villain of the movie the digital doppelganger named CLU. The tweets state that there is no more “uncanny valley” look for CLU. And that he apparently now looks “normal”, and much more human.

I can’t believe I got to experience a ‘4K UHD-IMAX-Dolby Vision’ presentation of “#TronLegacy”. I’m not even kidding when I say it’s probably the best High-Definition ‘Home Video’ presentation I have ever seen. It even had a 3D option, if one wanted to view the #Film in that way.
@ImAFilmEditor
One thing I'll reveal that I didn't mention in my review is this.
C.L.U's VFX have been updated. He no longer looks like "Uncanny Valley"; instead almost human. That's this presentations biggest and well deserved achievement. I've shown a few trusted sources a still. Incredible! https://twitter.com/ImAFilmEditor/st...59640759316480 …

Corridor Crew did a reaction video to Tron Legacy where they break down the CLU effects and what could maybe be done to be improved.
