Wow! That clip was even worse than I imagined!

But didn't the sequel state that he was killed on assignment in Bora Bora?

XXX is the only movie I felt dumber for having seen. And yes, I've seen almost every Adam Sandler movie as well as Stewart Saves His Family.

Ferris, Brancato eye 'XXX' sequel
'Terminator' scribes in talks to write 'Return'
By MICHAEL FLEMING

"XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" is getting off the ground with "Terminator Salvation" scribes Michael Ferris and John Brancato in early talks to write a script that will reunite Vin Diesel with director Rob Cohen.

The writing team, whose credits include "Terminator 3" and the upcoming Jonathan Mostow-directed "Surrogates," began talks after pitching their take last Friday for a new installment in the action series to Columbia Pictures presidents Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad.

Producer Joe Roth got Diesel and Cohen to agree to a reteam earlier this year (Daily Variety, Sept. 15). Col moved quickly to lock up the property, getting first look because of its past relationship with "XXX" generator Revolution Studios. Diesel and Cohen teamed on the 2002 original, which starred Diesel as an extreme sports enthusiast drafted by the government for a dangerous mission.

Diesel and Cohen sat out the first sequel, "XXX: State of the Union," which starred Ice Cube and was directed by Lee Tamahori.

The ramp-up on the project underscores increased appetite by studios for branded material. Diesel, who bowed out of two "The Fast and the Furious" sequels (save for a cameo in the second installment), reteamed with original co-star Paul Walker for a fourth film. "Fast and Furious" has been slotted for a June 12 release by Universal Pictures.

I'm so looking forward to this.

And I hope after he's done, he does Riddick 3.

Re: Vin Diesel/Rob Cohen reunite for 'XXX3'

Cohen gets 'Medieval' for New Regency
Director passes on Vin Diesel's 'XXX'
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Director Rob Cohen is set to get "Medieval" for New Regency.

Cohen has backed out of reteaming with Vin Diesel on "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" for Sony. Instead, he has signed a deal to helm an event-sized action film that Cohen calls "The Magnificent Seven" in the Middle Ages.

New Regency, which will finance the film and distribute through Fox, acquired the spec script by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch in an $800,000 against $1.6 million deal (Daily Variety, March 4). McG will be involved in a producing capacity.

Cohen, who studied anthropology and European history at Harvard, said he was drawn by the opportunity to tap into the historical period and create a heightened reality with big action pieces. Regency has kept the script hush-hush, but sources said the action brings together warriors from disparate cultures.

"It was a tough decision about 'XXX,' " Cohen said. "I talked to Vin over the weekend and said I hoped they would wait, but that if they find another director who's right for the sequel, I certainly wouldn't be angry. But I could not let something like this go."

Cohen said the aim is to get the picture into production by October.

He’s repped by WME.

So they're remaking The 13th Warrior/Eaters of the Dead? Does that mean we'll finally see the original director's cut on BD/DVD?

Cohen always struck me as a Michael Bay wannabe. He thinks he is such a cool hip director, and makes these big loud dumb movies with rock soundtracks. At best, you can expect a fun popcorn movie with dumb acting, Fast and the Furious included.

Well that sucks, but the movie he is going to do instead sounds pretty interesting. I look forward to hearing more about that one.

Re: Vin Diesel/Rob Cohen reunite for 'XXX3'

They've been showing Daylight a lot lately on TV.

That movie really showed how amazing a director Cohen is, especially the first 10 minutes with the intricate plot setup: People with lives get in cars and drive as evil New Jersians attempt to move toxic sludge through the tunnel, but with one car driven by a recently retired police chief and another by a rag tag team of hot rodding tattooed baddies, who knows what kind of shenangans will occur! Will the prisoners on their way to jail prove themselves to be valuable citizens? Will the frightened prisoner especially make an impact? What will the little girl with the camera see? It's through Rob Cohen's deft direction that we are already in tears by this moment, having been so heavily involved in their plight.

Yeah, XXX3 would be nothing without him. ...

Re: Vin Diesel/Rob Cohen reunite for 'XXX3'

Fresh news from Vin Diesel which he posted 2hrs ago on his facebook:

I just found out that we will be shooting the next true sequel to xXx in Eastern Europe! This is where we shot the original... and the fact that Rob Cohen is directing it means, it will be a whole lot of fun, and as he says, it will truly have original parts.

He is excited and only waiting for us to get through with FF ...so he can get started on his 3D version of our XXX. Rob Cohen happens to be one of the rare directors that my father encourages me to work with at every opportunity, he says that the sexuality of characters is beautifully present in his films... haha, that's big kudos from the seldom impressed father.

P.s. Each character can be played only at certain specific times in my life... for example, I couldn't play the Riddick character, if I was expecting a new life in the world... it would compromise the role. FF would be more suitable to "that me" because of its strong family theme.

All in good time.

The original xXx is great popcorn action. I kind of enjoyed the sequel too for what it was.

I'll see this one when it hits.

Since Sony lost the Bond franchise... this is the closest it will get. Guess we'll see how busy Sam Jackson is if he will be in this.

From Vin Diesel's Facebook page:

As you know, the new XXX script finally comes in next month… and just this morning people are suggesting Katy Perry as the new X girl.
/smile
P.s. Who would you like to see me work with this year?

Since Ice Cube is hot again with 21 Jump Street and Ride Along I wonder if he'll be apart of it somehow.

Now that Vin actually has box office clout again, I'm guessing that following the resurrection of F&F and Riddick, this is next on his list.

A bit sad though that all he can do is return to the well.

Well, in this case, I'm fine with him returning. I enjoyed the first movie, shame Rob Cohen is also returning however.

I think that after his career nearly crashed, he's happy for anything that brings it back, even if it is franchise sequels. I'm sure his wallet isn't complaining.

After seeing the success of the F&F franchise, I'm sure Cohen doesn't want to get burned again.

Pssssssh, he should have never left the well. He had a great thing going but decided he didn't want to be pigeonholed. Screw that - It'd be awesome if he bought or acquired the XXX rights, too.

Was Riddick actually a hit?
