I thought about it, but then I would have to include the guy who did the cartoon voice from the Joker of the 1970's cartoons. And I don't know his name and that would be voice only. This poll is appearance and acting.
Maybe someone can start a BEST JOKER cartoon poll.

That is why we should wait for these movies to come out first.
Many today have advance screenings and of course there's the bootlegs.
So there are enough in the world to have seen it.
EBERT & ROPER already reviewed the movie.
So what more can I say.

Why post a poll thread when the movie is not out yet?
Is it like a race to get your name stamped on a potentially big thread?

Basically; I don't get it, either.

It's only slightly more retarded than allowing people to vote on a movie using the star scale when the movie is one to two weeks away from release.

We didn't forget - we just never knew. Even as a 10 year old I was wondering why Joker was hamming it up.

Well, you have to admit it is pretty stupid to allow people to vote on a movie that's not even out yet, regardless if they give it a 5 or a 0.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a discussion thread and then create a reviews thread on the day of release? Or better yet, institute a rule where the person who makes a review thread should have a review ready to go..their OWN, not a link to someone else's.

And since you're here, would you mind answering why you feel the need to create review threads of movies a week early?

I agree. By the time the film comes out there's three or four copy cat threads that pop up because the first one created was buried in four pages of current conversation.

You know the thing i hated the most about the 4 (89&)90's batman films was the portrayal of the villains. Being a big fan of the comics I didn't feel any of them did a very good job. It obviously was more of a script problem because a majority of their acting was good. I think Jack was probably the best and came very close but i still didn't love him as the Joker.
I haven't seen Dark Knight yet but from the trailers Heath seems to do a very good job.

the only reason i put it out is to post the reviews that have already come in. RT and Supermallet's here. i'd rather put it out so people can look, read, and enjoy, rather than have it buried in the existing 44 page thread. i only post reviews when there are already a few posted somewhere that are pretty legit so people can see and get more hyped.

as far as i'm concerned, anyone who posts things other than reviews related or votes prematurely is just doing it out of spite and being ridiculous.

i don' think putting it out when there are reviews a week or so early is a big deal.

what is the difference between me jumping the gun or someone being silly enough to post in advance when they haven't seen it? why can't you or the next guy administer some self control and just not post?

it is merely there to distinguish between the already rich conversation and pre-hype of the discussion thread. wasting time and posts on why it is out early is pretty silly i think.

i mean...why so serious?

Not to mention that the poll is entirely worthless at this point. Every fanboy is going to run home from seeing TDK and vote for Ledger, based on adrenaline more than anything else. Even if his performance is the greatest ever, or the worst ever, he'll still get the vast majority of votes.

Calling for a comparison of performances like this need a good year's worth of time behind them, at least. Comparing a new movie you just got home from seeing with something you may have seen 15 years ago is hardly a realistically accurate poll.

Very fair point. But even so, I'd say having a proximity-biased poll the day of the release is still miles and kilometers better than a week-early poll having nothing to base a rating on other than trailers, high hopes, fanboy ramblings and the praise of Richard Roeper.

I thought the point of the review threads were to amass a collection of reviews and ratings from DVDTalk members, not professional critics. I mean, everyone here knows how to get to Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic and we can check for ourselves...what's the point of linking it if that is all you've got at the moment?

Advice you should consider for yourself.

I don't mind early review threads as they spark up conversation and having them linked in a thread is useful, but the backwards logic used when posting early polls thread baffles me

Edit that review thread has a poll

I always thought it made sense to have the pre-movie discussion and then once reviews start coming in to have a Reviews and Discussion thread. I don't mind the poll, I don't mind links to critic reviews, but I think it's retarded to tell people not to post or discuss the film.

So Heath seems to have turned in a performance everybody likes.
Some didn't like when he was picked and again just like with the new Bond was picked people were bashing the actor before he even filmed a scene.

now i can vote. Ledger in a landslide, but keep in mind the other two played their roles how they were supposed to. Nicholson was supposed to be over-the-top and he succeeded handsomely. Romero was supposed to be manical in a cheesy, cartoonish way and he succeeded. but if we are talking serious acting ability...Ledger. nuf said!
