Best Joker performance

Now since all this talk from the media is that Mr. Ledger should get an Oscar nod for his performance as the Joker. The same thing happened back in 1989 with Jack Nickelson's Joker performance.
So who did a better Joker performance?

Cesar Romero has always been my favorite. I always get a kick out of how the producers let Cesar keep his moustache. They just put the white make-up over it.

costanza 07-13-08 06:38 PM

where's mark hamill?

Evil 07-13-08 06:38 PM

You forgot Mark Hamill - I'll go with him.

Mark Hamill FTW. Even after seeing Heath do a great job, Mark is still the definitive Joker in my book.

TheMovieman 07-13-08 07:07 PM

I think this poll needs to be redone to include Hamill...

Groucho 07-13-08 07:13 PM

A little early for this poll, eh?

Hamill does a great voice for the Joker, to be sure. I question how well he'd do with the "complete package" if he played the role in a live action capacity.

filmfreak 07-13-08 07:14 PM

Am I missing a Batman film or are we comparing cartoons to live action?

Hokeyboy 07-13-08 07:22 PM

Mask of the Phantasm was a theatrical release. They showed a bit more groin than they did on network television.

DthRdrX 07-13-08 07:36 PM

Can't judge it until I see TDK.

Can't be too careful with all those wierdos around!

JPRaup 07-13-08 07:42 PM

judging strictly on the trailers, its Ledger

OldBoy 07-13-08 08:13 PM

i'll wait till i see TDK.

fumanstan 07-13-08 08:35 PM

The prematurity of this thread made me think scott1598 posted it.

devilshalo 07-13-08 08:46 PM

Since I have not seen TDK, my answer is Mark Hamill.

That's what I thought too.

I don't know how Ledger can be an option since nobody can see his performance until Friday.

This poll will go off the charts for Ledger next weekend. Just wait.

I think this really depends on how you relate to the character due to your age. I grew up with the 50s/early 60s Joker (whom I prefer)... when he was a practical "joker" who delighted in confounding Batman while committing outrageous crimes, rather than the deranged killer he is now.

Romero epitomizes that era's Joker, and I always liked Ceasar Romero anyway.

Nickelson really brought the character to life on the big screen. I (like everyone else, it seems) thought it was perfect casting. Stereotypical, if you will.

Ledger (from the little I've seen in the trailer), I think will be noted for his "interpretation" of the character. He may make the character his own.

Each is a product of his time.

Most of us haven't seen Ledger's performance yet...but I hope we don't forget how good Nicholson was as the Joker.

Since Ledger may be a shoo-in (at least right now) for a Best Supporting Actor nod - maybe the Academy should ask Jack Nicholson to present that award and let Tilda Swinton give out one of the other major awards. It would somehow seem fitting for The Joker to acknowledge The Joker.

.

Yeah, I think this thread should have been started after The Dark Knight opened.

I will say from what I see from the Previews, Ledgers Joker is probably the most faithful to the comic books, as a friend of mine told me as he is an avid Batman reader.

He told me The Joker is sick like a serial killer, and isn't really suppose to be over the top comedic-like Nicholson was. Now maybe that was Burton's vision as his Batman movies were alot less edgy then Nolans were.

Jack was fun as The Joker, but wasn't he really just playing Jack? Maybe Jack after spending a weekend doing cocaine, but still Jack nonetheless. Heath is unrecognizable.

Why does this poll even exist? My phone says it's July 14th... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you live in Hong Kong... it's still the 15th...

Why do polls and review threads keep coming out for movies that only a handful of the elite have been able to see? Why are some of you so poll-happy that your thread-trigger-finger should be lopped off? Why does it bother me so much?

Okay, well the last one I can answer - shitty day at work. Still, enough already with the premature polls/threads!

Otherwise, I swear to christ, the next thing I type will be my, "The Hobbit part 1&2 - Which did you like better?!" poll. For anyone that would actually click on it, there will be three options: "Part One", "Part Two", and "My life is devoid of all meaning, commencing suicide."

Can you imagine these pre-polls in 1999? Which is better The Empire Strikes Back or The Phantom Menace?

That is why we should wait for these movies to come out first.
