He looks like a homeless and alcoholic Willy Wonka.

To be fair, in the books Holmes was a master of disguise and would often pop up dressed like a bum.

And Law does look like a decent Watson.

Terrible casting. Who would believe Robert Downey as a cocaine addict?

I hope this movie turns out good as the Sherlock Holmes books are one of my favorites.

WB to release 'Holmes' on Dec. 25
Final 'Harry Potter' pic set for July 15, 2011
By PAMELA

Warner Bros. will release Guy Ritchie's Robert Downey Jr.-Jude Law topliner "Sherlock Holmes" on Dec. 25 of this year, instead of Nov. 13.

And the final "Harry Potter" pic got a release date -- July 15, 2011.

Studio also fleshed out its 2010 release calendar, dating a number of projects, including "Green Lantern," which debuts Dec. 17.

Robin Williams starrer "Couple of Dicks" -- picked up in turnaround by Warners -- is set to open Jan. 29, 2010, followed by remake "Clash of the Titans" on March 26. "Inception" opens July 16, and "Jonah Hex," Aug. 6. "Suckerpunch" will be released on Oct. 8.

In terms of any other changes to Warners' 2009 slate, "The Hangover" will open June 5, one week earlier than its original release date of June. 12. Studio also has taken "Wild Child" off the calendar. Emma Roberts topliner was to have opened May 8. A new date has not been announced.

The relocation of "Sherlock Holmes" to Christmas Day comes after Sony moved Roland Emmerich's "2010" onto the Nov.13 date.

Also opening on Dec. 25 are two family pics, Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel." There's also an untitled Nancy Meyers comedy set to open that day.

God...Disney needs to make better films. Pixar is really toting all that bank mostly. Well besides the Pirate films...

looks alright...waiting for the trailer. Cuz no matter what I think of Downey's awesomeness...it's just weird to think of him as Holmes.

Re: Robert Downey Jr is Sherlock Holmes (dir. by Guy Ritchie)

I saw the trailer tonight on Entertainment Weekly or one of those shows. Have to say I am not that impressed. I love Sherlock Holmes and I feel this movie deviates way too much away from the original classic stories. I feel like it's a definite miscast and the movie doesn't represent the spirit of Sherlock Holmes at all. I like Guy Ritchie and all the actors, it just doesn't feel like Sherlock Holmes to me. Definitely a modern take with more emphasis on action. Why couldn't they just stick to the classic formula?

Just saw the trailer on yahoo movies - link.
Downey Jr's performance looks good but I got a Wild Wild West (the movie) vibe and that's not a good thing . Still going to give it a change in hopes that I am wrong.
