I haven't followed comics in a while. When did Nick Fury become a black guy?

I think this might be in along with the kingpin becoming a black guy.

Spoiler:
Nick Fury

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe, General Nick Fury is African-American, with his look and personality tailored after actor Samuel L. Jackson (This was done with the actor's explicit permission).

Hmmmmmm

Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.

He probably did that to secure the possible future movie role.

Iron Man is a really shallow well when it comes to quality storytelling.

I really hope they do "The Crossing", where Iron Man goes insane, and the Avengers have to travel into the past to recruit a teenage Tony Stark so they can use him to help defeat the Tony of the present. And then sort of sweep under the rug the fact that the Tony behind the Iron Man mask is a teenager.

Or they could do one of the millions of "Drunk Tony" stories.

Or use one of his many dated rogues gallery members. Mandarin comes to mind - and with China on the cusp of world domination, it's only fitting.

Ultron would also be a good pick. So we've got a comic hero that inspired Robocop and a villain that partially inspired the Terminator. Looks like that Robocop vs. Terminator movie is finally happening!

...but honestly, as easy as it is to do a good Iron Man movie, it's just as easy to screw it up. Something deep and methodical isn't going to work; Iron Man just isn't that type of character. Superman is the guy you wish you were. Spider-man is who you really are. Batman is a cautionary tale. Iron Man is someone you don't want to - and furthermore, couldn't - be, but you can still like the character

Since they seem to be trying to ground IM more in reality, it might be a bit jarring if he battles a man wearing 10 magic rings. Maybe instead of rings, the Mandarin could wear some sort of hi-tech gauntlets that fire flames or electricity.

I can't really see IM fighting a giant talking dragon that wears a diaper though...

My question is when did Harvey Dent go from being a black DA to an old white DA to a young white DA.

Purple pants are not diapers!

I say just stick with other Armor wearing villains. You have Crimson Dynamo and Titanium man to work with. Not to mention it does match fighting styles of seeing a man in a suit fight another man in a suit. Biggest problem with Superman is you don't see superman go toe to toe with someone who can take it as well as dish it.

Iron Man 2 - April 2010 (Favreau is directing)

So Marvel announced that this is scheduled for April 2010.

It would seem that they haven't run this by Jon Favreau or Robert Downey Jr, though..

This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the BB/DK, X/X2 three year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 09 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.

Also, today it comes out that Marvel Studios head David Maisel is nickel and diming Favreau regarding directing Iron Man 2

and

So basically, Marvel Studios wants to screw the man whose movie secured them as a viable independent film studio. Are they retarded?

UPDATE: DARKHORIZONS is reporting the Marvel and Favreau have come to an agreement.

Sounds like the studio is pushing to make this next installment a cash grab.

Wow, just when I thought Marvel had gotten their shit together... I hope RDJ and Favreau hold to their guns and demand a 2011 date (also why they hell would they release it in April???). Marvel could get away with getting another director, but RDJ is a must.

Talk about ego.

Sounds like the studio is pushing to make this next installment a cash grab.
Gee, ya thing?

I'm willing to be that RDJ will do everything in his power to make sure Favreau is behind the camera... if they do get someone else then I say Fuck Iron Man 2... (unless that person is a jaw dropping name that will actually do a good job and not just a cheaper hired hack...but it sounds like they're going for the latter).

Give me RDJ and a director that can pull off a Spider-Man 2 like sequel and I'd be content.

But, I think it's obvious, no RDJ = no sale.

That's crazy. Does Marvel not realize how much Favreau contributed to the film's success? Yes, Downey was inspired casting and did a great job, but it was the framework that Favreau created for him, and the emphasis on improvisation he brought to the table, that made the film more than just a standard superhero battle-fest. If Favreau's not in control for the next one, I'll have lost virtually all interest -- and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I'd be more concerned about the rush to cash in leading to a weak script than the lack of Favreau's involvement. Don't get me wrong, he did a fine job, but he hardly has a "style" that couldn't be easily duplicated by someone else.

I don't know, but I'd suspect RDJ is already under contract for a sequel.

Well, this sucks. I was starting to think that Marvel was going to be the one studio to put care into all of their films, making them better than any big studio could. Now I see that all the $ from Ironman is clouding their judgement. Let's hope they get this back on track and do it the right way.

While Faves is certainly entitled to a big pay-day for #2, he really doesn't seem the type that would ask for an exhorbant amount. I think he mostly doesn't want to rush it and force a movie. If RDjr. backs him up and says he won't do it without him, I don't think Marvel will have an option other than letting him do it.

You know, I actually don't care if Favreau directs the sequel or not. There are at least a dozen guys in Hollywood that they could hand off to that would do just as good of a job. I liked Favreau's work on it, but I wasn't so thrilled that I believe NO ONE else should direct a sequel (as I am with, say, Chris Nolan and the Batman movies).

Let's be honest here - the real reason Favreau might go is because he'll want a TON of money, not because the studio isn't confident in his abilities. If Favreau REALLY wants to direct the sequel, tell him he has to accept a deal slightly better than the first flick, not outrageously better.

Hate to play devil's advocate on this one, but the last thing Marvel needs is for some director to try and hold their franchise hostage. Favreau doesn't have any "rights" here - he was hired to do a job and he did it. If Favreau can get a bigger payday elsewhere, let him do so. I hate the phrase "Marvel is lowballing Favreau" when we're talking about millions of dollars. It's actually nice to see a studio being responsible with their money.

Spoiler:
Flame away!

Wasn't his work on this more than just a director for hire? I seem to remember him being heavily involved in the development and lobbying like crazy to get Downey cast, but I could be wrong.

I hope they work things out, the first one was so right lets keep it that way.
