Electra Glide in Blue
I just watched my DVD (finally) yesterday and, wow, did I really love this movie. A great, twisted story. Robert Blake gives a solid performance that's part straight-laced cop and part some-screws-loose soul searcher. The supporting cast of Mitchell Ryan and Billy Green Bush are intense, and the gorgeous cinematography, courtesy of the late Conrad Hall, is magnificent. I can't believe it took me this long to watch this 70's gem. Anyone else a big fan of the film? I'm planning on watching it with the commentary in the next couple of days.

this is so weird because i just watched this yesterday as well (for the first time). amazing cinematography and a great story. kinda like the polar opposite of EASY RIDER. was rather shocked to find out the director was in the band chicago and that he never directed anything else. i watched the "director's intro" as well and it made me want to watch some john ford movies.
also does anyone else think david lynch is a fan of this movie? i sure do.

I first knew of this movie because my dad told me that it was filmed in my hometown of Victorville (Only the chase scene was filmed in VV, however. But it is a good little chase scene, nonetheless!)
Always saw this movie sitting in the rental section at my nearby video store, but I was always hesistant to watch it because (By that time) I knew that I would be missing out on some key photography because of the VHS foolscreen crap. Boy, was I ever right. I finally saw it on TCM Underground and right from the get-go (Thanks to Rob Zombie's surprisingly effective intro) I knew I was gonna be in for something special. Bought the DVD about a week later.
Know what? I think I agree.

And being a big Lynch fan I've got to think he's a fan of this film. Why? Because it makes you think, and it's a little disjointed; classic traits of a Lynch film. There are many underlying themes that mirror some of Lynch's work.

I had never heard of it before seeing it on TCM Underground a while back either. But the movie made quite an impression on me, for reasons already well laid out (Blake and the supporting cast, wonderfully shot, amazing ending). It's one of the movies that creeps up on you. While watching for the first time, I was on the fence at times whether I was enjoying it or not. But by the time it was over, everything came together.
There were a bunch of Chicago cameos in the movie too (including Peter Cetera). And Chicago's "other vocalist", Terry Kath, did the vocals for that fantastic ending song ("Tell Me")
was rather shocked to find out the director was in the band chicago and that he never directed anything else.
