Ninja Assassin (2009) - James McTeigue, Wachowskis (Rain, Sho Kosugi, Naomie Harris)
Movie was originally rumored to be a live action Ninja Scroll, they seem to have moved away from that.

Plot Synopsis (may contain spoilers):
Ninja Assassin follows Raizo (Rain), one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them… and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge.
In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris (28 Days Later..., Pirates of the Caribbean)) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive…and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.

Sounds intriguing (kinda like Crying Freeman in some ways), but how fuckin' old is Sho Kosugi now? I guess his kids are too young to play this part? Although, I think Sho would be a pretty good Snake in a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Sho turns 60 this year, he can pull it off... somehow. Haha.
On the downside, this is apparently a Warner Bros production in conjunction with Dark Castle, which has yet to turn out a particularly good movie (though I have enjoyed a couple). Though they seem to be branching out into the "violent action genre" along side their bi-annual horror flick.

I almost creamed my pants when you said Ninja Scroll!!
Imagine a Ninja Scroll movie with a Speed Racer/Sin City look to it. That would get my ass there opening day.
Will further reserve judgement until a trailer pops up though.

Rated R for strong bloody stylized violence throughout, and language.
Thank god Fox didnt make this one.

Loved V for Vendetta, love the Wachowski Bros., and love Ninjas. Has there been a big modern day ninja movie lately?

And for the fans of the Colbert show you'll notice his nemesis Rain as a ninja. Can't wait for Ninjas to be on the Threat Down.

If it starred Sho Kosugi, I'd seriously salivate over it.
Dont have too much hope, as I'm not a fan of too many modern slick, too pretty, style is the substance martial films. But I'm sure I'll give it a whirl no matter how good or bad the buzz.

What the shit? Does he have a machine gun that shoots ninja stars instead of bullets?
That is a ton of CGI for a film like this. Bad CGI ruined the Zatoichi remake for me & it looks to do the same for this movie.

This doesn't look a thing like I expected it to. What happened to all those tracking shots of awesome ninja skills (from the training video)? This just looks like a bunch of MTV jump cuts where you can't tell what's really going on. Disappointed.

Good thing it will come out a week after Twilight. Which gives Ninja a little bit of boost in the boxoffice figure.

Or maybe not much considering that New Moon will fucking rape the box office by screaming teens.

I'm in for this.
It's not too often that you see a major studio like WB produce a martial arts flick.
BTW, I read several months ago that Rain was in negotiations to star in the new Enter the Dragon remake that is being written and directed by Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons of Anarchy.
