That is what I thought while watching Part 3. It felt like the Die Hard 12 parody on the Ben Stiller Show.

I can see that. He could've been a fish out of water in lots of different places. He could've been in some backwards southern city, or in a foreign city like London or Tokyo. Although we'd still have the problem of losing Rosewood and Taggart unless they resorted to some *really* convenient plot contrivances. Plus the fact that by part 3 he was practically a veteran of the L.A. area.

Isn't that essentially what Rush Hour is?

Hopefully they can get Bronson Pinchot as he is a better actor than Binchon.

Oh but wait, they shouldn't make any more of these since the series SUCKS!!

(Other than part one, which was barely tolerable)

Beverly Hills Cop 4 (D: Ratner) S: Murphy

Eddie Murphy back in 'Beverly Hills'
Brett Ratner negotiating to direct 4th 'Cop' film

By MICHAEL FLEMING

On the heels of the successful revival of the "Indiana Jones" franchise, Paramount has set in motion a fourth installment of "Beverly Hills Cop."

Eddie Murphy is attached to reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley, and Brett Ratner is negotiating to direct.

Studio is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, won't be actively involved in the new film.

Murphy approached the studio about reviving the franchise that cemented his status as a B.O. mega-star. Par brass were eager to land another picture with Murphy after he finished the Karey Kirkpatrick-directed "NowhereLand," which Paramount releases in June 2009.

That film was also produced by Di Bonaventura, who is working on the summer 2009 releases "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers 2."

The studio canvassed a number of directors before choosing Ratner. A writer will be hired shortly.

Released in 1984, the original "Beverly Hills Cop" grossed $316 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. All told, the three pics grossed $712.9 million worldwide. The last was released in 1994.

Murphy is currently toplining the Brian Robbins-directed "A Thousand Words" for DreamWorks.

Ratner has been developing the Hugh Hefner biopic "Playboy" for Universal and Imagine.

Normally, I'd fleck shit at Eddie Murphy in a Brett Ratner-directed movie, but with Axel Foley involved in this one I'm interested.

As long as we get an R rating, and by that the hard R the first two films were, hopefully could be good. Could.

I guarantee you that they will be going for a PG-13 rating.

Remember, the 80's 'R' rating is todays PG-13 rating. Just cut out most gratuitous sex and keep the cussing to a minimum and you have a 'kid friendly' Axel Foley.

The studios want to make as much money as possible and they want as many teens to see their movies.

If it is PG-13 Eddie Murphy will finally be proven to now be a soulless hack who is 100% completely useless and must be destroyed.

Hasn't Eddie Murphy publicly stated that he'll never make another R rated movie?

True, but IIRC Lorenzo di Bonaventura (the producer) stated he wanted this to definitely get an R a while back (forget where, but I read this).

Great, Brett Ratner, the guy who made Rush Hour 3, possibly the most obvious example I've ever seen of making a movie for a paycheck and paycheck only. Rush Hour 3 sucked so bad, but then again so did Rush Hour 2, only not as much. Rush Hour 1 is pretty good though.

You just contradicted yourself. The reason ANY movie is rated R is for sex and cussing (as well as blood and gore etc...). I disagree with that statement too. I don't think today's PG-13 is 80's R by any means. In fact, I think 80's R is a lot more "R" than today's R. It really just depends on the movie I guess. It seems like 80's R-rated action flicks had a lot more blood and cussing and nudity than today's R-rated action flicks.

Axel Foley's sidekick in this new movie will be an overweight Jewish guy (also played by Murphy). The villain will be an elderly Asian guy (also played by Murphy). The film will also allow us to meet Foley's sex-crazed elderly mother (also played by Murphy).

Can wait!

Hopefully this new one won't be worse than that.

No doubt we'll get a "remix" this time around where the music can barely be heard in the background while Kanye West grunts in the foreground "unh unh unh".
