Box Office Mojo is reporting $32M for Friday alone for Iron Man. WOW!

With $5.5M on Thursday, it's already at $38M for a 2 day total... that's a good start.

Wow, I really underestimated Iron Man, but happy to see a huge hit again. The box office has been a real snooze for quite some time.

This movie is so front-loaded. I haven't seen any sold-out shows via online ticketing websites... sorta odd because I expected to see the Friday/Saturday night shows to sell out ahead of time. I'm sure it'll have decent legs due to word of mouth. Good for Jon.

Nice kick-off to the "summer" movie season.

Aren't all of these big summer movies front-loaded? It's all about the huge opening in the summer. I wouldn't expect Speed Racer to take much of a chunk out of Iron Man, but Caspian sure will. I'm glad to see both Favreau and Downey have a major hit on their hands. Looking forward to the sequel.

I wouldn't say Indy is front-loaded. It covers a pretty wide demographic and will stay in the top 5 for most of the summer.

I asked some people at work who was going to see Iron Man and one guy actually had never heard of him. At all. A few others said they're not really into comic books so there was no interest.

I predicted 50-60 million, so this is looking good.

I think the film will have legs, and quite a few people will watch it more than once.

So far it looks like Iron Man is putting people in the seats, despite GTA IV. I'm waiting for the Blu-ray release (I don't go to the theatres anymore anyways), so I guess I'll be considered one of the ones staying him because I'll be playing GTA IV.

Indy will do well across the board, but I guarantee you it won't be in the top 5 for "most" of the summer. I just can't see it holding that kind of ground for more than 2 months.

I never even considered the possibility that Iron Man could be among the top 3 box office movies of the Summer, but now that looks like it's not just crazy talk.

IF word of mouth turns into more ticket sales and this thing has serious legs (like few movies have had in recent Summers), then I could see this movie in the top 3. That would just be a huge surprise - but a pleasant one.

It's nice to see a movie that lives up to expectations when it comes to quality, and then exceeds them when it comes to the box office.

I saw it last night and I'm considering going back again tonight.

Iron Man was good but this is the last straw, no more opening weekends on PG-13 movies. Too many fucking Chatty Cathys.

Yep, that's the weird part. Maybe it's just a local thing with the non-sellouts. Weather is great and there's some big events going on in town this weekend. Maybe our high gas prices are keeping some away.

Usually that's my problems. I prefer going to theaters at night for some reason, but I missed showings last night and caught a 2pm matinee ($3 cheaper too!) and surprising.. there was only a handful of people in there. Granted it was playing on 4 screens, but it wasn't mobbed like I was expecting and I actually had the first enjoyable movie-going experience in a LONG time. I'm an opening day type of guy, but after last summer with bad experiences at Die Hard and The Simpsons movie, going in the afternoon the Saturday of isn't too bad.

Fantasy Moguls said Iron Man was up 12% on Saturday, and earned about $36+ million. And projects it'll take $94.74 million for the 3-day weekend, and $100.2 million since Thursday night.

I guess GTA IV really made a dent in those numbers.

Just the thought that a video game would somehow steal the thunder from a Hollywood blockbuster was ridiculous to begin with.

I don't think it's that ridiculous, although it certainly wouldn't make the difference between hit or bomb. I felt the same way with the Halo 3 or Harry Potter book launches. It's not too hard to imagine that another major media release would result in people staying home, although it would mean probably only a small difference of $5 to 10 million in my opinion.

Glad to see Iron Man kick ass though. I caught the movie on Saturday morning and it wasn't that packed. I'm sure there are cities and areas that aren't as lucky as me, but I still wonder at those who always say they refuse to hit the theaters when it seems pretty easy to avoid crowds.

I'm glad to see Iron Man made a huge chunk of money this weekend. Well deserved IMHO. I wonder how much of a drop off it will have next week? As much as I loved Speed Racer cartoons when I was a kid, I just don't see the movie beating Iron Man next weekend.

Looks like Paramount underestimated Friday, as Box Office Mojo adjusted that to $35 million. It's a well deserved opening take. 2nd highest non-sequel opening of all time, behind the first Spider-man ($114 million).

Speed Racer has the worst buzz of any Summer release. Neither that nor What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas will be #1 next weekend. I think Iron Man will probably drop 50%, but that will push it to almost $200 million, which it will earn before Prince Caspian arrives.

Great to see Forgetting Sarah marshall is still doing well, maybe I will see Iron Man and Harold & Kumar this week.

Only 44 million doesn't seem like it's doing THAT well. I was hoping for better.
