DVD Talk Legend
I was thinking about him and his condition just a week ago, I read something about him somewhere. It talked about how he was in the very late stages of his disease, that they didn't have him hooked up to any machines, and nor would they do anything to extend his life by using any machines or anything like that.
It's very sad news that he has died, but we all pretty much knew it would happen sometime over the next year. Another legend has passed on.
RIP.![Frown](/images/smilies/frown.gif)

His wife by his side, how touching. I once heard Paul Harvey go over how he met his wife, and their love through the years, and it was one of the most touching love stories I've ever heard. It's rare for anyone to remain married for so long, much less any sort of celebrity.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary actor, civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at the age of 84. The Heston family issued the following statement:
"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.
We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.
No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people."
A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund:

DVD Talk Legend
I love Charlton Heston. He was a great actor, and many of his movies were among the best ever made. I just got El Cid a few weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'll have to check that out soon.
He really was a larger than life figure on the screen - he had a presence that few actors ever have.
After the announcement that he had alzheimers it was just a matter of time until he passed away, but as one of the last of the old school Hollywood legends it is still sad to see him go (although by this point it's probably something of a relief for his family - I've seen alzheimers up close, and it's not an easy thing to deal with).
R.I.P. Mr. Heston - you were one of the best.

They've been showing the POTA movies on Monsters HD, and after seeing the story about him passing away, I thought that was probably why they were showing them...but then I realized they've actually been showing them the last couple days, even before he died. [cue TWZ music]

Ben Hur is perhaps my favorite movie (tied with Jaws), I'll watch it tonight.

Yet another favorite of mine is lost...a true king when it came to epic films. By rough count, I've seen 41 films in which he has appeared...many of which I have watched multiple times.
Thanks for:
Planet of the Apes/Beneath the Planet of the Apes
Major Dundee
Khartoum
55 Days at Peking
El Cid
Ben-Hur
The Ten Commandments
Earthquake
Midway
Omega Man/Soylent Green
The War Lord
The Big Country
The Savage/Pony Express/Arrowhead/The Far Horizons
Touch of Evil
The Greatest Show on Earth
etc., etc.,...
One film of his which I have not seen but which has me very curious is the 1950 film noir "Dark City".
All that said...
I blame me for his passing...
