Followed the live blog for this... sounds like it has some interesting ideas w/ some of the present day headlines.(drones, etc) They said the voice was similar to the original, but the set pics are pretty much accurate. Original design unfortunately is little more than a gag. (Keaton says he prefers black) Good FX combo of practical and CG.

Well this remake is sounding worse and worse. My only hope is that Criterion re-acquires the rights to the first movie so they can re-release it on BD.

I saw the footage tonight and while I was against the remake, I'll give it a chance.
What I saw was really good and (will spoiler this just in case but has to do with Robocops's look)
Samuel L. Jackson described his character as 'Rush Sharpton' which got a chuckle.

The exposed arm is terrible because it gives you perspective on how thin the rest of the suit actually is. Doesn't look intimidating at all. The filming suit looks like a custom Halloween costume.
The original was very subtle with it but tried to get the point across that Robocop is very bulky and strong.

That may be the official policy, but some in the business actively fill a movie with objectionable content, and then complain when they run up against the MPAA. The saying used to be, "if you want a lower rating, make a film that warrants it", but some folks these days push the boundaries just for the sake of it. "RoboCop" is a great concept, which doesn't need extreme gore, sex, or language to reach people. That's why I'm looking forward to the remake. The original was submitted eleven times to get an R; how crazy is that?!
I mean c'mon, they named the car they advertised in the film the 6000 SUX, it's not like they were trying to be subtle in the intentions of the film.

It feels like this movie has been in development for ten years now. This thread was started in 2008. Before that, wasn't Darren Aronofsky attached or something?

So at some point Aronofsky was attached to both RoboCop and Wolverine? I'm sure either one would have turned out better with his involvement.
I'd certainly like to see him take a stab at a comic book/ graphic novel property when the stars align and the right opportunity arises.

I'll see it now but have some reservations. I'm digging the scope of the film - they spent a shitload of money on it. I thought the nod to the original was cute. "Let's paint it black." I want to see Michael Keaton as a bad guy again - it's been too long. I can't help shake the fact that it reminds of the Total Remake. That was a garbage remake. This one is also PG-13.
Joel Kinneman is the bomb, though.

I dunno looks iffy from the trailer but I'll probably still see it. I think the suit looks a lot better silver (it appears as though it gets changed to black later) and I'm still not digging the whole one human hand thing showing either.
