Not even close.
Maybe they're different for fanboys like you and I but the lethal law enforcer, futuristic action film may looks like something the average American has seen before. Plus keep in mind the demographic who will be paying to see this movie mostly will me young males who were most likely not even born when the original came out. I know you'll think what I'm saying is bullshit cause you might be a diehard but twenty seven years ago is a long time ago. I mean if a 25 year old male saw the movie in '87 he'd be 52 years old now.

I was 8 or so when I saw the original and it was some traumatic shit. I'd never seen a film that violent or with as much profanity before in my life. I didn't grow up with a VCR, so when I saw it at a friend's house it blew me away.

It just looks like the new version is being neutered for the sake of marketing; and to just keep it a 'safe' picture, which is wrong. The original was a scathing a satire. I don't know what this one aims to be.

I've heard it claimed that the original Robocop was loosely based on Judge Dredd.

Same here. When I was a kid I had to skip over the Warehouse scene because I couldn't stand watching it. Robocop should be the hardest "R" they can get away with.

re: RoboCop (2014, Padilha) S: Kinnaman, Oldman, Jackson

Goddamn. I saw this when I was 3. My cousins, that I was saying with cuz my mum was in the hospital giving birth to my sister, for some reason had it on the TV. I saw it. I've been pretty desensitized to gore and way too much violence cuz of that. I loved RoboCop cuz of RoboCop. The action was cool but being 3...Robo was awesome. My favorite scene in there is still the drug bust. Music blaring, Robo taking that door down, the shooting. Man...I wish we had a better BD of it cuz I'd love to own a good version of it on BD.

I would always trick my parents into renting me Robocop because they probably thought it was a silly kid's movie about a superhero police officer.

BTW, anyone read these supposed spoilers on AICN.

Spoiler:
Here's some HEAVY spoilers

It's HEAVILY family centric, Robocop is heavily emotional seeing as this time they did not wipe out his emotions or clear his memory, he realizes what he is and is angry and emotional and all this and spends most of the movie going on about his family (like Spawn sorta) . He even cries in one scene. This isn't so much a big action movie as it is trying to be Sci-Fi or something.

Oh and there doesn't seem to be any violence...sorry fans of the original. His gun is a TAZER gun and therefore TAZERS a ton of criminals in action sequences. His body is strange that it is blue and looks like a cop uniform and his helmet is see through but when he goes into SWAT Mode he turns into that black suit in the photos and starts TAZERIN THEM CREEPS.

This is just the script though I suppose things will change.

Again heavy spoilers

Gary Oldman's character completely controls Robocop or Murphy along with some chick technician, once Murphy disconnects himself by drilling himself in the head(old movie reference) and taking out the control thing he tries to find out what's going on and who killed him, turns out the company hired this guy to kill him then their own mercenaries to destroy his limbs, he can recreate crimes with his computer and does so and later when he discards his taser gun he uses a 44 magnum to try to fight off a bunch of ED-209's and other military drones.

Like the original movie he gets badly beaten by The ED's but this time rather than the cops firing on him they help him destroy the ED's. Finally he confronts Gary Oldman and kills him. The bad people get put in prison and OMNI Corp execs get thrown in jail. OMNI gets bankrupt til their yes...parent company OCP (with old logo) come in to take over. The Govt steps in to repair Robocop the best they can and he confronts his wife again this time explaining blah blah blah he can't be with her he'll protect her and gives her his blessing to go with the now Male; Jack Lewis. Jack Lewis raises his son and loves his wife while Murphy stays on the streets patroling. And they even give him his own statue.

That motorcyle must've been built by the same company in Detroit that made K.I.T.T. I hope it talks too.

So, based on that video, I guess the hand will indeed be exposed at all times. Weird.

The plot is pitiful if those are true. And it's not like the plot for the first film would even classify as high art.

It's as if they decided to make the Asylum version first.

Yeah, that's just dumb design with the hand. Anyone with half a brain would aim at the hand first. Plus, it looks dumb.

I think they do use it. If the leaked script info is to be believed,
Spoiler:
he at first looks like an updated version of the original suit. Then some focus group trashes it and they revise it until he looks like the crappy all-black kevlar version.

re: RoboCop (2014, Padilha) S: Kinnaman, Oldman, Jackson

from the way I've heard the script makes it out to be...it seems like it pokes harsh humor or whatever at the original...which is odd cuz it's a damn fine movie. Stuff the original had now changed for whatever reason. Seems like a an offensive way of paying respects to the film.
