Double Features: Your Suggestions Needed

Last summer I put on a series of Friday night double features, projecting movies on a sheet hung across my parents garage door. I'm starting to look forward to the end of this freaking winter and want to start thinking about next summer's double features. I prefer the movies to be themed in some way, but nothing too obvious. Last year's films included:

The Iron Giant & The Secret of NIMH
Kid's night needed something the little ones would like that would also appeal to the adults. My dad is in his late 60's and really doesn't get too excited about movies but he really enjoyed the Iron Giant.

Renaissance & Battle Royale
Foreign bootleg night

3 Days of the Condor & Breach
Espionage night

Sneakers & Catch Me If You Can
Con night, conspiracies and confidence capers.

Ocean's Eleven & Ocean's Twelve
In preparation for Ocean's 13 (which I never got around to actually seeing)

Impostor + A Scanner Darkly
Philip K. Dick night

Wordplay + Who the $#%& is Jackson Pollock?
Documentary night

The Last Man on Earth + Children of Men
Post Apocalyptic Pictures Predicting the Prospect of a Possible Oppressive Posterity

Batteries Not Included + Close Encounters
Spielberg and space ships

Bringing Up Baby + The Philadelphia Story
Screwball comedy night

The Maltese Falcon + Brick
Hardboiled detective night

This year I'm eliminating anything that isn't widescreen because the square format looks less impressive projected and involves readjustment of the projector. So, even though I'd really like to include classic films, they are out. I also prefer relatively family friendly films since the projection goes on right out in the open for anyone to see. I'm not really that concerned about it, but nothing too extreme.

Here's a list of a few things I'd like to show for which I need pairings.
Aguirre: The Wrath of God
The Host
Singin' in the Rain
Charade
The Taking of Pelham 123
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams

Your choices for pairs to these movies as well as other double features you'd like to see and how they are themed would be welcome.

If you are in the far south Chicago suburbs and might want to stop by, take a look at the blog as summer approaches.

Singin' in the Rain would be out, per your widescreen-only policy.

A good one to pair with Pelham 123 might be Dog Day Afternoon, which is from the same time period and also involves hostages/negotiation.

I'd say that either Cloverfield or The Mist would go well with The Host.

Of course you are correct. An oversight on my part.

Aguirre: The Wrath of God and Apocalypse Now would be good pair for Goin' Crazy in the Jungle Night.

Kurosawa's Dreams and Waking Life could pair as a Dreams and Dreaming Night.

Charade
The Taking of Pelham 123
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Aguirre: The Wrath of God and a Gus Van Sant movie or Romancing the Stone (not a joke)
The Host and Cloverfield
Charade and Heist
Dreams and Waking Life

May I also suggest The Conversation and Enemy of the State?

(I always feel these work best when you mix in something old and new, or well-known and obscure).

I could be wrong, but isn't Aguirre non-widescreen?

Either Charley Varrick or The Laughing Policeman if you want an early 70s Walter Matthau drama night. Or maybe something like Freebie and the Bean. No Matthau, but still gritty 70s NYC.

"Night of the living dead" and vincent prices "The last man on earth" would be a cool double feature. I think Romero was inspired by "Last man on earth"when he made "Night"

The first thing that comes to mind for The Taking of Pelham 123 is The Anderson Tapes but it's not available.

Inside Man might be a good match for Pelham.

And yes, I believe Aguirre is not widescreen.
