The BD release of the original comes with a ticket to see this...so I will. Not expecting much from it.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street about to become A Nightmare on Remake Row

Some quotes from around the web about this awful poster that sum up my feeling on it

---------------------------------------------------
"is the new freddy being played by a female? whats up with the narrow shoulders, the wide hips, and the effeminate stand?"

--------------------------------------------------

"They look like video game teasers or something. They lack any real atmosphere. It all just looks and feels so phony."

"But that's just my opinion."
----------------------------------------------------

"It does look horribly photo shopped, doesn't it?"

----------------------------------------------------

"I miss the actual creative posters that were used years ago. Back when they'd hire actual artists to make them creepy and atmospheric."

-----------------------------------------------------

"Posters starting going down the tubes in the 90's when we had to deal with all those floating face posters. Remember those?"

------------------------------------------------------

"Now, they're all done by computers... Nothing wrong with computers, but this poster sucks! Looks like something my 6th grade cousin came up during summer day camp art shop.

No offense to 6th graders... Some are quite talented, but he wasn't. Oh well... And neither were the people who came up with this poster."

I don't get the digs this movie is taking already - just a little update in case you all forgot....the acting was horrible in the original so what are you expecting out of this one?? If anything I would think the performances would be a little better a the least.

I'm not saying the film looks like it's going to be the best ever but am I missing something that maybe all of you saw that I didn't???????
I think a lot of older films have sub-par acting but are still cherished. Look at Clerks, the acting is really bad in that film but it is still held up on a pedestal and people would have the same reaction if not worse if it would be remade(just to point it out that I love Clerks and it is a great film despite the acting).
I was aggravated with this flick when i first heard about it but since remakes are starting to become an epidemic I've chilled out about them. I'll probably go see this one since I've seen the last few horror remakes and I haven't really hated any of them.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street about to become A Nightmare on Remake Row

I'm not a big Nightmare fan... only saw the first one and wasn't impressed, so I never bothered with the sequels. However, there's an interesting article written by the screenwriter of this remake in the magazine Scr(i)pt where he talks about what he wanted to accomplish and how he prepared himself to write this script (watched all the originals, etc), and even how his first spec sale lucked him into this job through a general meeting. Kind of interesting and actually makes me want to check this remake out at some point.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street about to become A Nightmare on Remake Row

Knowing that the writer had to watch the originals to "prepare himself" only gives me less faith in this film. I'd rather know a FAN wrote this, not some hack who needed to cram in 8 films to know what the fuck he was doing.

I've got to be honest here, I think I'm going to completely pass on seeing this in theaters. Never thought I'd say that.

That's not the impression I took from the article. I took the impression that the writer did use the previous movies, but didn't solely base his entire knowledge off of those movies. If I'm wrong, so be it.

I think this movie will be awful, but I quite like the make-up. Fred actually looks like a real burn victim, unlike the cartoonish make-up of the original films.

Yea, but that "cartoonish makeup" has been iconic for over 20 years. I don't want to see a guy I could find at my local hospital's burn ward trying to scare kids.

I'm still standing firm on not seeing this.

Do you know of any other movies with the movie cash? I'm not wanting to upgrade, but if there's something out there I don't have that would be perfect.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street about to become A Nightmare on Remake Row

I watched the trailer when I went to see Titans and the trailer does a good job in not revealing Freddy's face. However, I don't mind his voice. Based on the photo that was posted in this thread, I don't like the change.

Shame they couldn't even let Robert Englund have a cameo. I will see this solely for Hailey's portrayal of the character. Although his Freddy voice sounds uncannily like Rorshach.

Yeah, but everybody wasn't happy when we saw The Joker's makeup and then the actor gave a great performance. So give it a chance.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street about to become A Nightmare on Remake Row

^ I have no doubt that we will get a good performance, as Hailey always gives 100%. However, Dark Knight had Ledger in addition to other fine performances and a really well written story. This doesn't seem to have any of those other factors.
