That's always been one of my favorite bits in Christmas Vacation. The timing between Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid is perfect!

That's the point of the whole scene. Anyone who has seen the movie knows this. Not something that is not noticed.

the scene in 'The Birds' where after the man is engulfed in fire he drops his match into the gas, the subsequent shots of the fire as it climbs back up the hill towards the gas station - the quick four edits of Tippi's face as she watches the flames - I had never noticed that brilliant editing choice by editor George Tomasini and director Hitchcock.

I should have clarified that I know that now but didn't like the first 2-3 times I saw it years ago.

^The beautiful thing about widescreen. I'm pretty sure the reason I never noticed that when I was a kid was because I had only seen the movie in full screen. It wasn't until I bought the DVD with my first DVD player that I noticed that.

That's great! It reminds me of how on the audio commentary, one of the producers says the movie is dated by how much the Ghostbusters smoke, and Ramis makes a big deal out of saying, "Not me!"

Re: Movie moments you just noticed

Twice in the past while talking to two fans of the Exorcist, I've mentioned how brilliant the head-turning scene is, in that Regan is not only mocking how Burke Dennings was found (with his head turned completely around), but also speaking in his voice. Neither of the people I've mentioned this to had noticed the connection. I think they were both distracted so much by the famous head-turning that they never thought about what Regan/the demon was implying.

Re: Movie moments you just noticed

I actually found this out years ago but for the longest time I never noticed: in the first naked gun after leslie neilson stabs the jelly fish with the unbreakable pen (I think that's what he does) he starts talking about nordberg saying that "he's doing pretty good so far and soon he'll be able to play the guitar" (or something similar) I never noticed this for the longest time because the camera is focused on what he's doing with the fish and he says it somewhat quitely.

You Only Live Twice. Seen it a zillion times, including several times at theater. Recently watched the BD. Towards the beginning, when Bond is walking streets of Tokyo at night, never noticed that he is being shadowed by several of Tanaka's female agents. Each time he passed a particular spot he was passed of to the next girl.

In Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, when Max is leaving after concluding his deal, Pappagallo, declaring that he will drive the tanker, has an hourglass in his hand.

Spoiler:
The hourglass is obviously full of sand, could this be foreshadowing of the decoy plan later in the movie? It's amazing that I can have a full-time job and still have enough time on my hands to notice this.

I remember noticing this in the theater the first time I saw it. One of those times that the big screen image really makes a difference.

In one of the Oceans Trilogy films, not sure which one, there's a scene where Matt Damon's character is in a European city talking on a cellphone while walking down the street. The cinematography shifts to a very choppy hand-held camera as an inside joke / homage to his Bourne films, shot in the very same manner.

The second one was set in Europe. The first and third were in Vegas.

Eyes Wide Shut takes place during Christmas, and there are numerous examples of a Christmas decoration of a tinsel garland with two giant tinsel candles. But in the last scene in the toy store, the garland has a giant wreath. There is also a display of board games called The Magic Circle, circular K'nex toys, pictures frames for six circular portraits, and lots of circular architectural details.

I've seen that movie a million times and never noticed that. I've always just looked at Murray.

Re: Movie moments you just noticed

A couple that were pointed out to me by others after I'd seen the movies and never noticed.

The Mist
Spoiler:
The crazy Bible thumping woman played played by Marcia Gay Harden was actually right about killing the boy. As soon as the boy was dead they were saved

How to Train Your Dragon
Spoiler:
the connection between Hiccup and Toothless becomes stronger when I realized that they both had left appendages that were missing. Toothless' tail and Hiccup's foot.

Actually...

Spoiler:
I'm fairly certain every prediction she makes in the movie comes to pass, including the one you mentioned.

knowing how big Kubrick was in regards to attention to detail, this was all intentional & not a happy accident
