I wonder if she'd sign a poster or DVD for South Park Bigger, Longer, Uncut.

Looking through her IMDB page and poster artwork, I could do a Girl, Interrupted poster but not going to pay a fortune for that one. Unfortunately, my favorite films of hers, she’s not really that prominent on the posters.

Re: The Film Posters thread

I managed to get a D/S American Sniper poster and went ahead and signed up for the Bradley Cooper signing. I see a few conventions got posted and I'm considering a Chevy Chase (Christmas Vacation) and Sam Raimi (Evil Dead). I was thinking about a Sean Astin Rudy poster, but that was a childhood favorite and one I haven't revisited in years.

Thoughts on Michael J Fox? For $350 are you going to get a decent signature? I did some google image searching and it looks like his recent signature is surprisingly good, all things considered.

SWAU is doing private signings at New York Comic Con. They've got a great lineup. Ewan McGregor, John Carpenter, David Tennant, Chris Evans, Zachary Levi, Ron Perlman, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, etc.

One thing about Chevy, is that I hear he can be moody at signings. He'll often ignore any special requests like placement or pen color and just do whatever he wants. I don't know if that's true, it's just what I've heard. Randy Quaid is the same way. And Randy has two signatures. One that's a full signature, and one that's a sloppy quicky with an R inside a Q.

The MJF signatures I've seen still look pretty good. Not as good as his earlier signatures where you could read his full name. But his is much better than other people that are really struggling to sign like Tim Curry. MJF's signature looks really good on large items where he has lots of room to sign.

If you're thinking of a BTTF piece, you might want to look for something that's already signed. MJF and Lloyd have done tons of private signings.

Wonder how their prices will compare to the pricing if you actually get the autograph at NYCC.

I think John Carpenter and Zachary Levi were both charging $125 at recent conventions. SWAU is charging $160 base for those two. And they upcharge for larger items and add-ons (character names, personalization, etc). So you're definitely paying more.

But at the con you'll probably be waiting in line for hours. And some of these signers like Carpenter often limited how many items per person.

Also, some convention signers have started upcharging for particular items. Like charging double for signing a Funko. Or charging more if the item has other signatures on it. Carl Weathers is notorious for this.

Damn... I got lucky then as I've been to two Q&A film screenings of Carpenter's work and was able to get him to sign a BTiLC poster for free. Only problem is it's barely visible as the pen kind of dried out when he got to me, but he gave it a go a second time.

There’s also nothing else that would interest me at a comic con. So I’ll gladly pay extra to not travel and spend time at something like that.

Did some searching, and it seems that this isn't an uncommon practice.

^ Looks like Harrison Ford upcharges for items signed by other people, too.

^ Katee Sackhoff charges $100 for an autograph, but $140 to sign Star Wars related items.

Re: The Film Posters thread

Corey Feldman charges around $60-$70, but insists on personalizing it ("To: Dave"). If you don't want it personalized, he charges double. I guess he doesn't want you reselling it.

Earlier this year I saw Sophia Lillis was charging extra for signing Dungeons & Dragons items.

The problem with these upcharges at conventions, is that sometimes they aren't listed on the price sheet. So after waiting in line, you get up there and find out your item will cost more. At least with a private signing, you know exactly what it's going to cost.

Re: The Film Posters thread

I remember reading about a comic book artists who would do signings at conventions, and if you didn't give him your name to personalize the comic he was signing, he'd personalize it "To the highest bidder."

Which is just about the most passive-aggressive thing I've ever heard.

There doesn't seem to be an upcharge specifically for Star Wars stuff at SWAU. But there is an upcharge for larger or bulkier items.

As to the personalization, I actually prefer the personalization. All the autographs I get are for my personal collection. I like them to have my name on them.

I've been to cons that presell autograph tickets for specific time slots. I wish more cons did this. Doesn't eliminate the standing in line time, but it does decrease it substantially.

Re: The Film Posters thread

I went ahead and signed up for the Gene Hackman signing through Official Pix. Now I can't figure out what the hell I want to send in. I like The French Connection and The Conversation but both posters would have to be reprints, and I don't really care for the artwork on either. I'd love an Unforgiven poster but he's one of four characters on the poster, and even if I managed to get Eastwood and Freeman, Richard Harris' signing days are over. Right now I'm between The Quick and the Dead and Crimson Tide. I see Sharon Stone is doing a signing coming up but think the window is too short to get both. I'm leaning Crimson Tide as I like the movie and poster more. No clue if Denzel ever does private signings but I can't imagine it would be cheap if he did.

Currently waiting on the following to be completed and returned:
Brie Larsen - Room
Jeremy Renner - The Hurt Locker
John Carpenter - Halloween
Bradley Cooper - American Sniper
Mel Gibson/Andrew Garfield - Hacksaw Ridge
Bill Skarsgard - It Chapter 1

That's a great response! In my mind, if an autograph is personalized it's much more likely to be authentic than if it's not personalized.

I usually default to non-personalized.

Only when they ask who to personalize it to, will I just say my name to avoid an argument.

Re: The Film Posters thread

I’d much prefer non-personalized autographs and I’m not a seller nor would I ever sell an autograph I went out of my way to get.

If I’m paying for it, they should sign it the way I want. If they say they’ll charge me double for it non-personalized, I’d probably tell them to fuck off.

How about a screen used prop or a piece of hardwood floor signed by Hackman?

Re: The Film Posters thread

I would never get a screen used prop autographed. I believe it ruins the prop itself.

It’s probably better to get an engraved name plate autographed, and then display it with the item.

I own three “24” props and I can’t imagine ruining them with autographs. Two types of collections (props vs autographs), in my opinion.

I'm the same way with animation cels and production art, although I did make an exception for a JLU piece signed by Conroy.

^ Agreed. I would never have someone autograph a screen used prop.

But who WOULDN’T want an autographed chunk of hardwood floor?!*

*
Spoiler:
Jokes aside, I’m assuming it’s a piece of hardwood basketball court in honor of Hoosiers?

I'm almost tempted to send in an actual piece of left over hardwood floor.

Yeah, I'm not paying for something that's going to be personalized. It just doesn't display as nicely and the value won't be there for when my kids kids have to eventually liquidate all my belongings. If someone is being kind enough to sign for free, they can sign it however they want though. What's annoying is when they're signing for a line of people and then taking all this extra time to ask people their names and how it's spelled, and then getting half of the spelling wrong anyway because they can't hear over all the commotion.

I was watching a youtube video of someone who went to a con to get a poster signed. He wanted the celebrity (don't remember who) to add a quote to the poster, which the celebrity didn't mind doing. However, the celebrity didn't remember the quote (it sounded obscure to me). The youtube guy kept repeating over and over the quote and the celebrity had to write really slow and sounded confused. Even I was confused by the request!

People should just have their name and quote ready on a post-it, and then place the post-it on where you want the autograph and quote to be. And also have the pen ready (cap off), if bringing your own pen.
