re: The Film Posters thread
As Dr. Mabuse pointed out, it's the character The Night Flier from the movie of the same name.
They're not overly thick at all. The frames are the ones that have the four pieces that you slide on to the glass and backing on each side. I just like them as the cheaper alternative. They're not something I'd display my nicer/older posters in. I'm not sure if they still carry them, but they did at one point have thicker frames that were around $50-$60.

Here's the website with the poster, there's also a glow in the dark version. They both may be sold out, it started out as a exclusive to their email list, then they sold what was left on the site.

The ones at Michaels look sort of like a paper clip. You push down and rotate them out, so it looks much easier. Their padded backing also looked much better than the crappy cardboard Walmart had.
If I ever pick up an expensive original, I'll probably spend the money to have Michael's custom frame it. They said they have run 60% off deals on a consistent bases that includes all the custom framing. The lady said they have a new "Master" style glass that is 99% UV protected. She said there will still be some glare, but the colors should pop better through it. Obviously, I won't go this route on $10-$15 posters. I think the price given with a 60% discount was about $145 using that "Master" glass. That style of glass is their most expensive.

I've added several posters lately, it's going to be tough which one to choose to use the frame on. It'll be awhile before I can rack up more frames. Even at $24, that'll add up fast. I think my choice is down to the advance white Star Trek poster or Inception.

I stopped in Michael's this morning and got a 27x40 frame there. They were having a 40% off sale on them, so I got mine for 23.99. It's better quality than Walmart's $20 ones. Those are a nightmare getting the padding off. They are secured by these tiny, sharp metal pieces and it's a bitch to get them pulled back.

Here's the back of the frame from Michael's. Very sturdy/heavy backing and the clips are very easy to move. There's a little groove inside the frame that they slide in. I highly recommend these if you're looking for frames.

Agreed, especially with 8 1/2.
I like the concept of these posters. They're movie posters without looking like movie posters - they actually look like real art. Much more classy looking that traditional movie posters.

Is there anything to owning double sided original posters versus reprints? Is it primarily just the collectors aspect of it? Been thinking about buying more posters, just curious.

re: The Film Posters thread
The double-sided originals are always the most valuable. I can usually get newer films for cheap which is why that's the kind I usually get. But for older films, I'll definitely settle for reprints. They are too expensive. The originals are going to be the highest quality print. Some originals are also 1-sided only. The white Star Trek advance poster I posted awhile back is 1-sided.

I temporarily hung that poster up in the living room just to take the photo, since there was no reflections. I have a spare room that has enough space for about 10 posters. I only have a few up so far. Frames are expensive.

Lots of these posters are very cool and I'd love to own a few of them (just don't have the wall space), but aren't they some sort of copyright violation? Something tells me these artists did not get the studio's permission to sell these. I mean, I can't imagine the studios having a problem with these posters being used at a local theater on or the artist's website, but trying to make a profit off of them is another thing entirely.
