Bleakest ending to a movie?
It used to be movies would come out and no matter how dark or disturbing, the film would have that so called "happy ending".
Many more movies in this century at least have totally broken the mold and leave the ending to interpretation or leave it understandably bleak or befuddling.
Of course, there are many classics of yesteryear that have also broken tradition. I like those movies, the ones that make you think and don't always offer up that cookie cutter moment.
"The Descent", since I am watching it now, is one that springs to mind with an ending that is dark and bleak for the most part (at least the Unrated version). This is one that stays with me long after it is over and makes it such a better movie than if they were to show the sun shining and the birds singing.
"Planet of the Apes" (1968), "Citizen Kane", "Easy Rider" are also ones that pop in my mind that have that dour, leave you with angst endings. I know there are so many others...
What do you think are some movies that fit this bill??
**(doesn't have to be limited to movies that are more recent)**

Requiem for a Dream
Dancer in the Dark
The Sixth Sense didn't have a bleak ending, imho.
