Re: Johnny Depp : Best Role on Film?

I've liked Depp in just about everything I've seen him in except his most mainstream stuff like POTC (parody of his screen persona), Secret Window (soulless), and The Tourist (worth seeing perhaps simply to witness a lack of chemistry between leads as never seen before).

I know people like to bitch about his late collaborations with Burton, but I enjoy them...and hate Hot Topic. People like to claim they are formulaic, but really, it only seems like that b/c Burton is an auteur with an established style. When I think formulaic, I think of movies and narratives that are essentially paint by numbers that any director can do well (think action movies like the newer Die Hards, Olympus Has Fallen, etc). You can say what you want about Burton, but his movies are far from genre films.

Ed Wood, for sure. He is Ed Wood in that movie. No matter how accurate or inaccurate the portrayal is to the real man, there is no trace of Johnny Depp the actor in that character, to me. And yes, Martin Landau won a much-deserved Oscar as Bela Legosi. The friendship in that film is one of the most powerful stories I've ever witnessed.

Buckleyesque, you're relatively new around here so you may not be aware of the poll option but it may be worth setting one up with a moderator's help.

Yeah, in case you want to add a poll to a five year old thread.

Never mind that you haven't posted since 2007.
