There weren't many in the matinee showing I went to, but that scene drew a big thumbs up from the audience. It was hilarious!

Hell! I even applauded (of a crowd of about fifteen folk) - still mulling over the movie in general though.

Maybe it was just the state I was in (depressed), but I really got caught up in this whole movie. I didn't expect it to be a creature/monster movie, but it was done extremely well.
Very good stuff. I've always been a fan of Thomas Jane though, so it might be a bit bias.

I read the story again after the movie and definitely preferred the ending in the book....for those who have not read it, it's one of his better endings:

I loved the movie...I thought it was expertly crafted, the acting was incredible and the ending just blew my mind... I haven't felt so tired and emotionally exhausted after a movie in a long time. Darabont should be the only one allowed to make Stephen King movies - seriously. Please get him onto 'Cell' as soon as possible.
Also, I thought the ending was earned

It thought it was decent, although I still prefer the book ending to the movie's. Still, it was an interesting and daring choice to go with that ending, so I'll at least give them credit for doing so.
One other minor point - anybody else notice that this was the third Daranbot directed Stephen King movie with William Sadler in it? They must be good friends, and/or he really likes his acting chops.

Finally was able to catch this tonight. I loved it. I loved every minute of it. The ending was a shocker, but not undeserved as some have suggested. The cast was great, especially Marcia Gay Harden and Thomas Jane. It's a shame this movie hasn't done any better, because it's miles beyond most everything else out there right now (I'm not including No Country For Old Men in that statement), and looks better than anything else that's going to come out this month.

I doubt any of you remember me going on and on about how much I hated The Village and The Day After Tomorrow? If not, just go back and read my thoughts on them both.
The reason I mention that in this thread is simple - in my opinion, The Mist is right up there with the aforementioned pieces of crap. I don't know how anyone can actually call this a great film, unless they only mean "great" in that it's great to mock and to make fun of from beginning to in. Now that, I'll agree with. I saw it with my cousin, and it was just us and a group of three other people watching. We all thought it was horrible, and mocked it all the while. Hell, me and my cousin basicly wrote the film as it went along. After one scene, we'd guess what we thought the next horrible moment, cliche would happen next, and sure enough that's pretty much exactly what would happen.
I'm not even going to bother going into details, but my God, this was one horrible picture. One of the most unintentionally funny horrible movies in quite a while.

As for the movie, I definitely enjoyed it. It was refreshing to see a horror movie that wasn't torture porn. In fact, the movie really got to me and I can't stop thinking about it. I was really absorbed in it for the duration of the film. And the ending...wow! Do have to agree with others that the studios showed some major guts in having an ending like that.

Saw this last week at the $1 theater, I loved it until the end, the last 5 minutes were a mix of highly out of character, lame, and predictable. It hammered the moral home but it didn't work for me -- reminded me way way way too much of
which is fine... if it were a comedy.

I'm well and truly grateful that the Director went with the ending he did. Would've hated Kings ending. Having them just drive off into the mist "Do they live or die? You decide..." God, talk about a boring and completely ball-less way to end the story.
King does deserve some credit though, as on the DVD extras he's quoted as telling the Director that he wishes he'd thought of that ending himself.
Quite powerful stuff that was very reminiscent of how I felt at the end of The Descent: Directors cut. I'll take the kick in the gut ending every time thank you.
