"The De2ent" -- aka "The Descent 2"
According to Slashfilm, a sequel to The Descent is on the way.
The sequel will be directed by Neil Marshall's editor from the first film, Jon Harris, and will be called The De2ent.
I like the first one, it wasn't as derivative as other horror films but I'm not sure how they would make a sequel without retreading on the same themes and tones as the first film. Similar to The Hills Have Eyes remake; it was great, but the sequel, I hear, is not. And the title, The De2ent is terrible. So many sequels now have to work the number of the film into the title "Seven"-style, and it has gotten way beyond the point of ridiculous. I hope they at least have the good sense to change the title.

The title is pretty idioteque, but the first movie really caught me by suprise. A little slow in the beginning, but besides that it was good all around.

I think a sequel wouldn't work as well for me because a large part of my enjoyment of the first film was the fact I was completely unspoiled as to what the threat was. From a story point of view they have a few options, though.
And that title is awful. It doesn't even make sense, as I read it as 'Detent'. At least with Se7en, the number was also the title, so my brain overlooked its phonetic failings. And 2 Fast 2 Furious was simply replacing 'too' with 'two'.

I loved the first, this title is dumb and I don't really see a sequel working on anywhere near the same level...

Could've been called dE-¢ II.
OK, so... How are they going to make a movie about a woman who's crazy and ends up trapped underground? Does she finaly get rescued and then go nuts again?
This is like making a sequel for the Sixth Sense were Bruce Willis has now become a hard-boiled cop in the Philly police force. Does. Not. Compute.

Will it be a sequel to the original U.K. ending?
Or will it be a sequel to the truncated U.S. ending?
Or will it not have any of the human characters from the first one and be a new set of characters going into the cave?

will the sequel continue to include:
1) highly evolved underground creatures that can't detect humans who are inches away?
2) scenes where experienced people make idiotic mistakes like running ahead into a dark tunnel?
3) scenes where a character is loudly killing creatures all around and then a friend who decides to quietly walk up behind her?

I'm sorry but I have to totally disagree with that. As I've said in the past, "The Descent" was good, but there was A LOT of "cheap scare 101" nonsense and the story wasn't that original even with the "twist" ending. That said, I'd check out a sequel just to see where things go.
