Re: The Hobbit
I know this has been mentioned, but atleast The Hobbit Prequels will blend nicely with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, whereas the Star Wars Prequels and Original Trilogy are like watching 2 different movie series.

I'm not too familiar with the Hobbit, loved the LoTR movies, and I'm sure the Hobbit will be great, but do have one question after seeing this trailer: Will this movie just be a cast of about 2 dozen elves singing in pristine fake beards and costumes singing for 3 hours? Because that's the exact message the trailer conveyed.

They're dwarves, and no, it's not just about singing, it's a great children's story made into an epic film about hobbits, dwarves, elves, gold, dragons, magic, battles, Gandalf, Gollum, and a magic ring. Sure the dwarves sing a couple of songs, but it's not all about their songs. -kd5-

Re: The Hobbit
Visual familiarity is fine and I'm glad that Jackson has made it so the films all look like they exist in the same universe. However I'm glad that he's also changed things somewhat. All the dwarves in the prologue and those that arrived at Riviendell in FOTR had a sameness to them. Jackson wisely made them look very different and individual for The Hobbit.
My issue with the trailer is that it's sloppy. There's no flow to it whatsoever and it feels very slapped together.
My only other gripe is how little of the footage shown seems fun. That was my main fear when it came to this movie. LOTR is mostly a dreary affair with most of fun/whimsical bits ocurring early in the Shire. (I don't count Tom Bombadil since he's essentially the Jar-Jar Binks of Middle Eath.) The Hobbit on the other hand was very lighthearted. I'm afraid that wont carry over in this adaptation.
Dolph Lundgren would make for a badass wizard.

elves, dwarves, trolls, siths.... there's a certain type of person that doesn't care to know the difference, and I'm proud to be that person.

I don't know why people are bitching that it looks like "more of the same". I wanted more Middle Earth films from Jackson, and now that's what I'm getting.
I'm also going to risk being suspended/banned and state that I won't judge the film on a sloppy trailer considering it won't be out for a year.

Yeah what was the point of that post?
I don't know the difference between Sherlock Holmes and John Holmes and I don't care that I don't know the difference but I think I'll go post in the Sherlock Holmes thread just for the Hell of it.

Re: The Hobbit
Greatest trailer Ive seen that had my jaw on the ground since I saw FOTR trailer. Goddamn this gave me goosebumps!
Question, why are the dwarves on horses, theyre too damn small! And doesnt Gimli state they dont ride horses? I havent read the books in a long while, but arent the people of Rohan the only "horse people"

Re: The Hobbit
Rohan are the horse lords, but they don't have a patent on the horse-riding technology.
And maybe Gimli was talking about modern Dwarves? This is before his alleged statement.

Re: The Hobbit
I'm all in favor of giving this the same look and feel of LOTR. As long as you have the same teams available, why not make the movies a unified whole. Save a new vision for a new generation (and yes, I know that a new generation would preclude certain talent from participating and that it'd be pretty tough to greenlight a new version when this highly regarded one is still available).

Perhaps they were ponies rather than horses? It's been years since I last read the book so I dunno if they attempted something like that on their journey.

I'm not worried at all about Peter Jackson screwing this up or taking too many liberties, although I'm sure this won't be a literal interpretation of the book.
