Re: The Hobbit

Ain't it Cool had this story along with pics of the actors chosen for each role. Gotta say, they all look perfect for this film and I'm definitely excited to see them in action.

let George Lucas do it. He'll shoot the whole thing in greenscreen on some lot in Burbank.

Re: The Hobbit

It'll be filmed in New Zealand after all.

Been a pretty huge story down here, it's kind of hilarious, even the Prime Minister got involved -- when was the last time a movie being filmed in a country was of national importance? I sure gather there were some rather dodgy business deals and tax rebates, but hey, I'm excited it'll be filmed here especially as I didn't live here when the LOTR movies were filmed.

Re: The Hobbit

I knew they wouldn't move off shore. Too easy to just shoot there, but they had the leverage to get what they wanted.

Don't you know your LOTR history? That's Figwit! Clearly he converted to a Hobbit after the events of the films.

Re: The Hobbit

Time to bump the thread with good news: http://www.theprovince.com/entertain...895/story.html

Shore is going back to Middle Earth with Rings director Peter Jackson. The long-awaited two-part movie adaptation of Tolkien's The Hobbit is in the works.

"We've talked about making these movies for many years, at least since 2002," Shore says.

"It looks like finally it's going to be happening. I'll be working on it for the next three years -- it's going to consume a lot of my time and work now."

Re: The Hobbit

More casting news and a (possible) start date:

Cate Blanchett is returning as Galadriel in The Hobbit, which Peter Jackson directs in February. Jackson has also set Ken Stott (Charlie Wilson's War) to play Dwarf Lord Balin, Sylvester McCoy (Dr. Who) to play the wizard Radagast the Brown, and Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt (Day and Night) to play shape-shifter Beorn. Ryan Gage (Outlaw) will play Drogo Baggins and Jed Brophy (who appeared in the original The Lord of the Rings) will play the dwarf Nori, and William Kircher will play the dwarf Bifur.

Re: The Hobbit

I hope she does the narration as well, if there is any. I thought she did a great job with that in LOTR.

It's Official: Ian McKellen to Return as Gandalf in 'The Hobbit'

McKellen has signed on to return as wizard Gandalf in "The Hobbit," the two-pic adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel being directed by Peter Jackson.

The dealmaking on Hobbit for a slew of Jackson veterans from his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy has been coming fast and furious and comes on the heels of Andy Serkis finally inking his deal to reprise Gollum.

"The Hobbit" book introduced Gandalf and Gollum, with both characters going on to become part of literature's most popular characters. Gandalf sets the adventure going in the story and appears throughout the novel. Gollum appears in a chapter that has gone on to be one of the most memorable in all of fantasy literature.

Elijah Wood signed his deal to return as Frodo last week, and Cate Blanchett will play Galadriel once again. Orlando Bloom has an offer to return as elf archer Legolas, though it's too early to tell if a deal will be made.

McKellen, who was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Gandalf, has spent recent years doing mostly voice work for film and TV, although he did star in the remake of AMC's "The Prisoner." His last major film role was in 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand."

"Hobbit" starts shooting Feb. 14 in New Zealand.

Frodo's role is supposed to be part of bookends to the movies, supposedly Frodo reading from the book Bilbo gave him.

Legolas is an elf, so is old enough to be around during the time of the Hobbit, even if he didn't appear in the original book. Not sure why you balked on Legolas but not Galadriel, who didn't appear in the book either.
