Please let him ask Guillermo Del Toro. A movie like this needs a director with a vision, and the ability to realize that on screen. We don't want another Golden Compass on our hands.

It's not quite as simple as that, as they had already applied some de-aging techniques back in 2000 on Ian Holm for his part at the beginning of the film (up to when he left the Shire). Now, they'd have the de-age him further. Considering the methods they used (one method was pulling his skin tight and hiding the extra skin under his wig, not a comfortable experience), I'm not sure it's entirely feasible for Ian to look as youthful as he needs to be with just practical effects.

However, they could possibly use digital de-aging, like how they applied it to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen at the beginning of X3. I don't know how expensive this would be to apply it to the main character over the course of two films, however.

Leonard Nimoy is freakin' awesome. How can you NOT like his singing?
By the way, that song is on an album that also includes "Highly Illogical", which is a song he does as Spock, singing about women and dating.

I really think Raimi is the perfect fit, especially since Jackson is producing. I bet the average person won't even know. I feel Raimi will be completely respectful to Jackson's work, besides I'm sure Jackson would just cut out the shit he doesn't like.

Here's another vote for del Toro. Sam Raimi jumped the shark with Spiderman 3. He needs to find a project a little closer to home and re-establish himself with that, before he helms something as big as the Hobbit.

You just gave me a heart attack. Now I'll be sad for a while knowing this won't happen.

Sam Raimi was just confirmed on doing a horror film (directing), so The Hobbit may not happen for him...

That's funny to read when you know that Jackson absolutely worships at the feet of Raimi, and his first few movies were basically homages to Raimi's work.

And Raimi's new horror movie will be a quickie (script was written 15 years ago, and due to the strike, can't be re-written). He'll should finish it in plenty of time should he decide to do Hobbit.
