The fact that they can also do movies with old show-writers who aren't working on the current season also is a plus. I don't think the simpsons is going anywhere anytime soon in terms of new episodes. It's the talent that does the voices who would be quicker to leave than FOX.

If anything, I imagine another movie being put in the works quickly.
did anyone notice dr. hibbert's voice was off? Must of been a different voice actor.

yeah, and while the actors have periodically threatened that in the past, they would have to be completely insane to walk away. i think on the last round they renegotiated to 250k per episode each. plus i'm sure they had a separate deal for the movie, and they also get paid for using their voices in toys, commercials, videogames, etc. and while i don't think they own a piece of the series(not totally sure), they still get acting residuals from the dvds and reruns. and not to knock voiceover work(because they are really talented), but from an acting standpoint it is one of the best gigs around. you don't have makeup, no 4 am calls, no lines to memorize, and at most a few hours work per episode. and because no one sees them, they don't get typecast, the way other tv actors on long running series often do.

so i'm pretty sure they'll come back as well..

Very impressive opening weekend for Our Favorite Family. The following weeks should be very interesting to see how it drops. I expect it to be around a 45-55 percent drop, the movie seems to be getting lots of love, and it'll be nice counterprogramming to the intense, shaky, and visceral thrills of The Bourne Ultimatum.

Ay caramba! In another thread, I guess a 60 million+ opening for The Simpsons, but I underestimated it.

Happy as hell to see The Simpsons: Movie kick some ass at the Box Office on it's opening weekend. I knew it was going to make around $60 million or so on it's first weekend at the box office but taking in $71,850,000 million in North America & $168 million worldwide in only 3 days is crazy. Considering it only costed $75 million to make, FOX is going to make a shitload on money on The Simpsons: Movie & this pretty much guarantees at least one or two sequels. Fantastic to see one of my all-time favorite TV shows that got turned into a movie be so successful. They are even going to make more money on the DVD release & chances are more people will buy season 10 on DVD then if this movie didn't come out.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry took in a decent $19,063,000 million all things considered. No Reservations got slammed by only taking in a pathetic $11,755,000 million & it cost $28,000,000 million to make, I think the movie will just barely make it's money back with the rest of it's run in theaters & the DVD sales, which probally won't be stellar. I Know Who Killed Me bombed, thankfully with only a messly $3,400,000 million intake. I never want to see a Lindsay Lohan movie do good at the box office because shes a horrible actress. The movie probally won't make it's $35 million back.

The Simpsons did drop 22% on Saturday. I'm guessing it'll be front loaded and have a more than 50% drop next weekend, especially with Bourne Ultimatum arriving.

I still don't quite understand why so many people, even those in the film industry, doubted that The Simpsons Movie would open in a big way. Yes, I've heard all of the reasons given for thinking like that, but it still never made much sense to me. To me it was a total no-brainer that this would be a major hit.

Same here. I just laughed whenever someone wondered if it would do good. I mean, anyone with half a brain could guess the outcome. Established fan base + brand awareness + comic books + Toys + TV-show + DVDs + newscorp promotional tie-ins + JL Brooks + good reviews = duh

A lot of people in the industry have also credited Fox's marketing, which did an incredible job. I managed to make it to one of the Kwik-E-Marts a few weeks ago, it was mobbed in the middle of the day, and people were carting off Krusty-Os and Buzz Cola as if they were looting the place. And I would guess that 7-11 paid Fox for that, rather than the other way around. And not to mention the 24-7 promotion of the movie on Fox and FX. And the 'Simpsonize Me' website has been very popular as well. Maybe it wouldn't have mattered if the movie sucked, but they were generally very creative and interesting promotions, and I'm sure they helped...

If only they had done Duff Beer! I would love a 7 pack with the 7 Duffs....

I knew this would have a big opening, but not this big. It just goes to show everyone that thought a decline in the quality of the show doesn't mean poeple are any less interested in a feature film. I know that the main cast has signed for 3 movies, so I think the prospect of 2 sequels isn't out of the question.
