"The Simpsons Movie"...the (Kwik-E-Mart) reviews thread.

I'm quite a big fan of the 3D stuff that's been developed for use with The Simpsons and Futurama, and the film had plenty of it - but it wasn't overbearing. It looked realistically cartoony, if that makes sense... basically, it wasn't a case of "hey, look at me, I can do CGI now!" but more a case of the 3D stuff working with and for the plot, which is how it should be. It wasn't unnecessary.
As for the film itself... not as good as I was expecting it to be, or indeed, hoping. But good nonetheless. It's probably on a par with a good-ish episode from the show's best seasons (around 6-9). It doesn't feel as long as it is, either. It must come from the fact that in a half-hour TV show in which a lot of stuff happens, you have to write so that things happen fast and move quickly. There is, unfortunately, a lot of downtime in the film, places where things just sag, but overall it keeps you interested and it does have some absolutely excellent bits and jokes. There's also quite a sad bit... it affects you a surprising amount.
Definitely worth seeing.

Just came back from this, and seem to have had a much more positive experience than the above poster. This film is fantastic -- biting and witty, wacky and hilarious. The animation, though 2D, seemed to borrow many of Futurama's elements and was excellent. The script moves at a brisk pace, and I don't think there was any point in the movie I wasn't laughing or at least chuckling - I loved the way they would add split second, blink-and-you-miss-it potshots at their animated rivals (look out for "I am a mascot for an evil corporation" ). There were some weaknesses to the film -- the story lacks any real depth or message (though that's not really to be expected anyway from The Simpsons), and some of the jokes are based on such current circumstances that they may not hold up over time. But it was definately one of the most fun experiences I've had at the theatre this year, and I'd gladly buy and re-watch this on DVD.

I liked it a lot. Some very funny moments, great animation and the plot was fine. Spider-pig really was one of the best parts and the use of the song thoughout was hilarious. My favourite gag was the
. I'd say it's a solid 3.5 out of 5. Not the out of the park home run that the 'South Park' movie was, but certainly a lot of fun and fans should be satisfied.

I saw this at a midnight showing last night. Great crowd, as you'd expect. Movie was good too, but flawed.
The first half hour is hilarious, but once the film settles into its main plot it loses a lot of momentum and hits a lot of notes that are familiar to viewers of the television series.
Animation was quite good as well, some really excellent sequences.
