All box-office hits.
With Evan Almighty's production budget of $175M, a worldwide gross of $92 million is NOT a box office hit.

Dumb and Dumberer made $26M domestic. That's a FLOP not a hit.

Son of the Mask: $17M domestic

NONE of these were box office hits.

We're talking about the fat kid who's running around with Robin Williams in the Wed movie, right?

What's next? Will they turn The Dead Pool into a franchise?

I'm going to have to agree with this.

I completely disagree. First one isn't as good as it was when I first saw it. Second one has only gotten better with each viewing.

You could even throw in Batman and Robin as another example of a bad sequel to a film with Carrey.

If you meant it that way, on a written forum where there is no way to convey tone, smileys are the key to victory.

Doesn't look good for the threequel.

Like many sequels, the box office seems to be influenced by the one the came before it. Matrix Reloaded easily outgrossed the Matrix as well.

+1

I love both Ace Ventura movies, but find myself viewing the 2nd one more often. "Kinda hot in these RHINOS!"

So let me get this straight. I need to insert this a smiley to denote the sarcasm in the statement that "Dumb and Dumberer and Son of the Mask were box-office hits"?

Are you kidding?

(Ummm, look at WepaMan's post three posts up.)

As a poor soul who actually saw Dumb and Dumberer opening weekend, I got the sarcasm.

Dude just admit you got taken. You don't need a smiley when you call Son of the Mask a box-office hit.

I heard the titles Son of the Mask, Even Almighty and Dumb and Dumberer, but I never even had a slightest thought of trying to watch them. Hence such a shock for me they earned so much money. Do people really care about such flicks?!

Son of Mask and Dum and Dumberer pretty much bombed, and Evan Almighty was a financial disappointment considering how much it cost.

I don't imagine this will set the box office on fire.

The sequel did so much because Ace Ventura was a big hit on video, meaning there was a larger theatrical audience for the sequel than there was for the original. Add in that at least the sequel had Jim Carrey in it, and a lot of people went to see it regardless of reviews, which hadn't been favorable to the first film either.

A similar situation occurred with the Austin Powers series, with steadily declining quality creating ever increasing box-office.

Ace Ventura 3- this isnt a joke
it kinda is...

the clowns are the people that control hollywood film output, and what it has become in the last 10-15 tears...

and the joke is on, not for, on the audience...
