Captivity
What's a Friday the 13th without a horror movie released? Captivity was released under the radar today (not screened for critics). Searching out some feedback online, I read that it is somewhat decent and more of a psychological thriller than a Saw ripoff. Quite the departure for director Roland Joffe as well.
Anyone seen it or plan on doing so?

Roland Joffe didn't direct a big chunk of this film. He made the movie 2 years ago and then after some disastrous test screenings, it just sat around for a while. Then in January 2007 it was picked up by "After Dark Films", which is run by Courtney Solomon (the director of 2000's "Dungeons & Dragons). Mr. Solomon took the movie and shot a new beginning and a bunch of torture scenes, in order to make it more like the recent torture films that audiences seem to be growing tired of.
Not sure what online feedback you saw, but Rotten Tomatoes has all the UK reviews up (it came out on June 22nd overseas) and it's at 12 percent fresh.
As for the movies "twist", just watch the trailer and you'll figure it out.

i don't really want to see this, but i did look for it around me and it is nowhere to be found and i usually get everything. i am very surprised this is nowhere here. also, i love the description Fandango gives:
A serial killer torments a fashion model (Elisha Cuthbert) and a chauffeur while holding them captive in a small room. While the madman methodically terrorizes them, the victims draw strength from each other and fall in love.
if that doesn't tell you to stay far away nothing will.

This film had one damn trashy premiere. Seriously... It's like a meth house gone mad in a cheap porno.
Gutted pigs, chains, and fat women getting pierced... Supposedly, Elisha Cuthbert never showed up. Well, in her defense, she did make this film before it was owned by After Dark.

I saw a commercial on TV for this the other day and I couldn't help but laugh. In it, a narrator says something along the lines of "a movie so extreme, so graphic, the billboards were banned from the public".
What a joke.

I would first like to say I love Elisha Cuthbert.
Now I would love to say this movie sucked. I predicted the ending in the first 10 minutes of the movie. Where was the torture? There was none other than the opening sequence. I thought I heard this almost got a NC-17 a few months ago... I think it could have passed for PG-13. Sure there was a sex scene, but 0 nudity or even cleavage. The script was laughable. I still can't believe some of the dialog. When you see the film you'll know exactly the scene I'm talking about. Maybe they wanted to get the point a crossed that blonde's really are that dumb. The whole detective aspect was downplayed even more than the original saw. If a big celebrity model magically gets kidnapped every detective in the city would be on it not 2 dumb asses. Elisha half of the time was convincing. The other half of her performance made me laugh. Daniel Gillies performance was even worse.... I just wanted to punch him in the face the entire flick.
I give this movie a 1.5 out of 10. It's nothing new, and I'll never watch it again. Not sure it's even worth a rental.

Critics were blocked from seeing it before release (always a super sign right!?!?) Our very own Eric Snider rushed out and saw it today.
Here's his review:

DVD Talk Special Edition
I saw this today and I don't know where the hell the commercials are getting this "extreme, graphic" business from, because it's a very weak movie. Barely any blood and no tension or suspense at all. Were the torture scenes that were added in taken back out until the Unrated DVD release? I recall like one torture scene and a couple seconds worth of snuff-film like footage on a TV.

Never has a trailer more telegraphed the complete suckiness of a movie than the trailer for "Captivity." Within the first five seconds, I had resolved to never see the film in any form.
I strongly sense this film has been dumped off some studio's shelves to make room for fresh crap.

What a turkey this one turned out to be. After learning more about it (wasn't aware that it sat on the shelf for 2 years and that Joffe's cut was retooled by a hack), I really have no desire to see it.
Kudos to the DVD Talk review crew who ventured out to this one knowing very well it'd be a train wreck.

Repellently disgusting trash. The main character is a stupid shallow twit (imagine a cross between Paris Hilton and Cuthbert's Kim Bauer) who deserves everything she gets. The screenplay also blatantly cheats the audience in an effort to "sell" the big plot twist which I still saw coming a mile away.
The only good thing in the movie was the always reliable Pruitt Taylor Vince as the bad guy, so what do they do, they keep him hidden underneath a hood for half the film. If Vince had been shown the entire film, there might have been some creepy entertainment value, but, instead, it's nothing more than an excuse to mentally and sometimes physically torture Cuthbert for the whole movie.
Why in the world did Roland Joffe have anything to do with this bilge?
And Elisha Cuthbert, if she wants to have a career at all, needs to get as far away from this type of manure as possible.

Suspended; also need updated email
you know that episode of 24 Series 1 where Elisa Cuthbert (Jack Bauer's daughter) and her mother were being held captive and her mother end up getting raped. That had way more tension, drama and terror than this crappy movie !

Not a huge fan of Elisha Cuthbert, so I won't even consider buying this horror movie when it comes to DVD. Sometimes you just want to cry because you know that a good horror movie hardly ever comes out anymore.
I'm waiting to see Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) in a movie like this, Yum! let's just say that if I was involved in the making of such a movie it would probally turn into a porno in the first 5 or 10 minutes into the film.

I haven't seen it, nor read about it, only seen the trailer.
To those that have seen it, please tell me if my guess of the ending is correct:
It just seems really obvious to me.
