When was last time a movie scared you?

I love horror movies, but I am trying to remember the last time I actually got scared from a movie.

I think maybe "The Decent", but that was at home on DVD. In the movie theater, forget about it...I don't think I will ever recall that.

It is sad really, the state of horror movies these days.

So anyone actually get scared by a movie (on DVD, but especially in a theater) recently?

(THE ORIGINAL) Black Christmas

Saw it for the first time back in 2002, I think. I haven't been that spooked out since then.

There were a few scenes in The Sixth Sense that scared me (or at least gave me goose bumps)

Spoiler:

When the abused housewife appears to Cole.

When the ghost boy turns around to reaveal half his head was missing. "come on, I'll show you where my dad keeps his gun."

Aside from those two instances, I can't recall anything else.

that did scare me when I first saw it. I miss getting really scared, When your young you get scared so easily and that was fun. Know I dont get scared that often. I would say, The Grudge remake.

I can think of a few times but it was when I was younger and these got me started loving horror movies. The Exorcist - so many scary moment in this movie. The head turning scene and just the demonic voice traumatized me. The Shining - the woman in the bath tub and those twin girls really got to me. Halloween - this is my all-time favorite horror movie. I was terrified during the last 20 minutes of this movie. Jaws - I never looked at going to the beach on our family vacations the same way again after seeing this movie. I am sure there were a few more but these stand out the most.

Me too. Ever see The Changeling? It has a really good mirror scare too. I watched it when I was a kid, and it was months before I could look into a mirror again.

Yeah, the mirror scene in The Changeling was a little unsettling when I was a kid.

I'll agree with the scott1598, the last time a movie actually got me jumping was "The Descent". I'm a pretty hardened horror buff so it takes a lot to get me, but the combo of claustrophobia, creatures and minimal lighting had me sweating.

The Ring, I saw it with a really good crowd on opening weekend. The place was packed and everyone was on the edge of their seats. The tension in that place was almost palpable, you can see about half the theater jump everytime anything happened, and then the part at the end with the TV...I thought some people were going to die right there in the theater. That was the best theatrical experience I've ever had with a horror movie.

As far as a movie that completely freaked me out and left me shaken I can think of only one- The Exorcist. Scariest film I've ever seen, everything else is child's play and doesn't come close. The Descent had its moments as did The Ring and The Sixth Sense- but none come close to The Exorcist.

I was still a child at that time. But, nothing from the early 90's actually scared me, that's true.

I just meant that that's the last time I was scared by a movie. Not any specific film.

Silence Of The Lambs. Scariest film I'd seen in many a years. On a DVD viewing it was The Ring and Ringu (equally good).

The last movie to really scare me was The Grudge. For some reason the movie really got to me. The only other movie that scared me prior to that was Poltergeist 3. I was a kid at the time, and remember I couldnt look in the mirror without thinking of that old man was gonna jump out and grab me.

I don't think a movie making you jump qualifies as being scared. Any movie can make you jump.

"The Ring" is another good one. the girl coming out the tv definitely spooked me.

but, the last good time that i can recall was seeing "Aliens" with my grandpa in Florida when i was a kid. i was literally terrified for months after that one. couldn't sleep without a light. thought they were in the closets. that was a tough time.

also, the critters in "Wrath of Khan" that went into Terrell and Chekov's ears had me freaked. i remember clogging my ears and stuff.

I can recall moments in movies that have scared me...but an entire movie that really got to me. Maybe the Descent...if not, all the way back to The Ring and the Sixth Sense.

Yeah, it's the ones that get under my skin that creep me out. It's not while I'm watching the movie, but usually later on. I remember having a hard time sleeping after watching the Sixth Sense, and to a lesser extent The Ring.

Atmosphere baby, it's all about atmsophere.

Poltergeist, back in 1982 - I saw it in the theater (I was 10), and it actually didn't really scare me until I tried to go to sleep that night...
