Ocean's Thirteen -- review thread

Just saw this last night. I've come to the conclusion that the only exceptional movie of the three is Ocean's 12. I never saw what everyone else liked about Ocean's 11 in theaters but I've put up with it because my wife likes it. We both love 12 (esp. the French thief and his dancing to victory moves); however, 13 was dull, humorless, and surpassed the bounds of believability with all of its complicated plot maneuvers. I still love Soderbergh because I think, for the most part, that he's not afraid to try new things and sometimes that leaves me with exceptional films (The Limey, Solaris, Out of Sight) but just as often he misses the mark for me. I think he must have been affected by all the Ocean's 12 naysayers and tried to give the audience what they expected from an Ocean's type movie only to return with a bad case of sequel-itis. Been there, done that, only better so it's time to move on now to something else.

Seriously, Ocean's 12 has me and my wife laughing for most of its run time. I can barely sit through Ocean's 11 and I will never lay eyes on Ocean's 13 again. Of course, I find that we don't like the typical comedies that appeal to the average movie-goer so it's doubtful we'll find too many people with similar tastes.

I saw this on Saturday night, and had no problems with believability. The movie was over the top in almost every aspect, so it didn't bother me that they stretched a little (or a lot) to tell the story; it didn't interfere with my enjoying it. There were plotholes galore throughout the movie, but I didn't mind because I was having too much fun watching it.

Loved it! Very funny in places and I really liked the digs at the actors other films and real lives.
Ellen Barkin is still a babe and I also thought the Mexican stuff was brilliant.
And to all the people who didn't like it, IT HAD SUPERDAVE IN IT!

I think if you look at IMDB ratings, this almost confirms this. For the first, only 2.2% of people rated it as a 1-3 (out of 10). For the second, 12.3% rated it as a 1-3 (out of 10). One out of eight people thought it was one of the worst movies. Back with the third, we see these haters possibly placated, as now only 4.7% think it's worthy of a 1, 2, or 3.

Minus the jarring "Julia Roberts" sequence, I really liked Ocean's 12. I thought everything worked just as well as 11 and 13. I luvvvved how they just took [what felt like] five minutes to show each one going into custody. They're cool with just putting some cool camerawork to cool music.
The Mexican scenes were definately the highlight of 13. But, you know what? I don't think many people went crazy over it. I saw it in a pretty full theater. And, when Casey Affleck started going off about 'rising up' I was all giddy and laughing and stuff. But nobody else seemed to into it. I was 'that guy' who was the only guy laughing.
I like how the audience isn't let in on too many of the plans. You just have to sit and wait to see how the actions pan out. This is done with precision in Oceans 11 and 13. 12 was a little sloppier.
Not only was Superdave in it. But I couldn't figure out who he was until one of his last parts - and I was like, "it's Superdave".
Is The Bank a real casino? I couldn't figure it out. The Vegas shots looked real. But I was in Vegas last year, and didn't notice any gigantic, ridiculously opulant towers that looked like that. Maybe I just wasn't looking.

And no, there is no Bank. I thought the shots were awesome. I saw it in Vegas and a lot of people were impressed. I don't remember if it replaced another hotel or if they just had it "built" on an empty lot.
It actually reminded me a lot of the casino in Rush Hour 2.

I have never seen Ocean's 11 or 12, so i came into this knowing next to nothing and I enjoyed myself. I didn't need any character exposition to follow along.

I always thought Ocean's 12 was Soderbergh's big-budget tribute to all those 60's/70's European (Italian, mostly) heist flicks, and for that, I loved it.
Regardless of your feelings about it, you have to admit that the soundtrack was easily the best out of the three. The Onion nailed it when they said the music was like an updated Morricone score. Of course, he's my favorite film composer, so I might be a bit biased.

Caught this the other night. I was very surprised at just how "blah" it felt. Sure, Clooney, Pitt, Pacino & Garcia were their always smooth selves, but the movie just didn't do anything for me. And it seemed like the bulk at the cast was provided with nothing more but glorified cameos. I didn't get the "group" feel at all. Don Cheadle had maybe 2 lines - that's a big letdown for me.
and for the record, I like 12 the most

The Bank did look impressive, though.

saw it....loved it (not as much as oceans 11 though which remains my all time fav movie).
the cast is just so well put together. love the chemistry between clooney and pitt. everyone knows the role and does it well. story was ok but everything else made up for it.
the audience loved the oprah part when pitt/clooney are just staring at the tv.
two questions: when the guy who was "fixing" the automatic shufflers called the british guy for help from the hotel room, did the rest of the team know about it?
what is actually in the spot where they created that fake hotel?

I thought it was amusing.
Affleck's Turk brother had me laughing my ass off.
Barkin was great and she looked even better.
Super Dave should be embarrassed by his face-lift. Simply awful.
