AFI Top 100, Version 2.0: What films from the last 10 years will make it in?

Since they're re-doing the AFI 100 list this year (June 20th on CBS), I think the most interesting thing to watch out for is which films from the past decade will make it? Which one will make it the highest? What got left out?

These are the nominated films that didn't exist the last time they made the list:

American Beauty
As Good as it Gets
Austin Powers
The Aviator
A Beautiful Mind
Being John Malkovich
Boogie Nights
Brokeback Mountain
Chicago
Crash
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fight Club
Finding Nemo
Gladiator
Good Night and Good Luck
Good Will Hunting
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Hotel Rwanda
The Hours
The Insider
L.A. Confidential
The Lord of the Rings: Shitty
The Lord of the Rings: Shittier
The Lord of the Rings: Shittiest
Lost in Translation
The Matrix
Memento
Million Dollar Baby
Moulin Rouge!
Mystic River
Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Ray
Reqiuem for a Dream
Rushmore
Saving Private Ryan
Shakespeare in Love
Shrek
Sideways
The Sixth Sense
Spider-man 2
There's Something About Mary
Three Kings
Titanic
Traffic

I think Titanic will (and should) rank the highest of the new movies. Maybe somewhere in the 50's. I also think American Beauty, Saving Private Ryan, Boogie Nights, Brokeback Mountain, L.A. Confidential, and (unfortunately) one of the overrated elf movies have chances of making it in.

The Insider
L.A. Confidential

Memento
Reqiuem for a Dream
Rushmore
Saving Private Ryan
Sideways
The Sixth Sense
Three Kings
Titanic
Traffic

where's Lynch's 'The Straight Story'?

Lots of those are very overrated though. They all served their purpose at the time of release but aren't timeless classics. The last "best picture" winner I agreed with was Braveheart in 95.

Of that list I'd say the following have a shot at making the new list:

Memento
the Matrix
one of the LOTR films

And I have to at Austin Powers and Shrek being in the company of the other films on the list.

Let's hope

American Beauty, Fight Club, The Insider, Lost in Translation and Traffic make it in

and

Austin Powers, The Aviator, Chicago, Crash and Ray are left by the VERY FAR wayside.

I'll say L.A. Confidential, Titanic, and Saving Private Ryan should definitely make it. The Matrix might get in based on influence, and one of the elf movies (probably ROTK) might be there. Hopefully Memento will get in.

I'd like to see Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas move up in the rankings. They were in the 90's in the original list.

City of God is the only one I'd add to this list. And of course, it's not on there.

Good god, those are their new candidates? Finding Nemo, Pirates, Matrix, Sixth Sense, Harry Potter, etc etc...shouldn't be anywhere near the AFI 100 list.

I could see Gladiator, LA Confidential, Saving Ryan, or Titanic making it I guess, though they wouldn't be in my top 100 list. But I guess it's not the Naitram Top 100, now is it?

There are non-American movies on the list though. I guess the primary language has to be English for it to be a qualifier.

I think it has to do with the percentage of production being American.

I hope the following make the list:

American Beauty
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fight Club
Lost in Translation
Memento
Traffic

Another good question would be which films will be removed to make room for these new additions...

Unless you were talking about the American remake, but that should not be in the list of the 100 best anything.

If it was up to me, I'd pick these since they are some of my favorite movies:
Boogie Nights
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fight Club
Rushmore

and possibly these although not as sure as the ones above:
L.A. Confidential
Moulin Rouge!
American Beauty
Being John Malkovich
The Matrix

but it's not, so they'll probably pick Titanic, SPR, and one of the LOTR movies.

I would boot off Easy Rider, MASH and Goodfellas. But everything else is pretty damn good.

I could see Modern Times being removed from the list since there's two other Chaplin flicks on the list, and this one is pretty far down at the bottom at #81.

almost famous should have been nominated over 90% of those flicks.
