re: Robin Hood -- Ridley Scott
An expected Scott feature trailer. Seems more in line w/ the topic at hand.

While that trailer did much more for me than the previous efforts, this movie still looks flat IMO. Visually it seems good, but it's a Ridley Scott film, that's going to be a given. The acting seems fine, but it has probably two of the best at the craft today in the lead roles. The story just isn't grabbing me as it looks like a Braveheart wannabe.

true, can't wait for it. Scott always seems to have director's cuts of his films on home video

Clip looks kind of standard Scott. Not that that's a bad thing. I like how I can see that clip and know it's Ridley Scott.

Also...for some reason it's just hit me that Max Von Sydow is in this. I dunno how I missed that considering he's speaking in the trailer and you see him for a bit.

Was anyone else put off by the TV trailer? When Crowe gives the "nation of laws" bit, I immediately thought, "didn't he give the same speech in Gladiator and Master & Commander?"

I loved Gladiator, but I have very little interest in this and it feels like there's very little hype or excitement about it, even after seeing more TV spots recently.

The trailer and clips aren't too impressive. But Ridley Scott's movies are rarely hyped. They just come out and the movies speak for themselves. I admire that.

I love Gladiator too but this just looks boring. Also, PG-13 seriously? Is that the only way to get epics greenlighted these days?

I haven't really been following this movie at all. Crowe is still one of my favorite actors & Blanchett has been my absolute favorite actress in the world for years so you'd think that would be enough to get me to see this. Got the trailer for this before Iron Man & I'm probably alone on this but this movie does absolutely nothing for me. It looks completely boring, like a film I've already seen before & didn't like. I'm just so sick of this "epic" type battle movies. They are all basically the same.

I think the only Ridley Scott movie I didn't look forward to was A Good Year. I can't believe the hate this movie is getting, next week we are getting an epic version of Robin Hood.

Scott is so hit and miss for me. He's made some of the best movies of all time (Alien, Blade Runner), and some other great ones (Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, The Duellists, Black Hawk Down), but a ton of clunkers (Gladiator, G.I. Jane, Body of Lies, etc.). Given that Robin Hood looks like Gladiator, maybe the worst Scott film of his entire catalog, that alone is enough to make me think twice. Add to that the fact that there are only two Robin Hood films I've ever liked (Adventures of Robin Hood and Robin Hood: Men In Tights), and the signs are not promising for this one.

His best: "The Duellists", "Alien", "Blade Runner", "Thelma & Louise", "Black Hawk Down", "Matchstick Men", "Kingdom of Heaven" (director's cut), "American Gangster".
The rest range from good/o.k. ("White Squall") to horrible ("Hannibal", "G.I. Jane").

This film looks like it's "Full of itself" but I still want to see it.

re: Robin Hood -- Ridley Scott
I was interested in it at first when it was Nottingham with Crowe playing the Sheriff and Robin Hood but this seems like a paint-by-the-numbers deal defanged because they won't make money on it.
I'm a fan of Ridley Scott and even some movies with simple premises like Black Rain are more than just simple flicks.
