Trailer looks great. However, considering the mammoth length of all post PoA Potter books, I will probably find this one to be at least as disappointing as GoF.
On the other hand, they might be able to keep the momentum better balanced on this one, since the stakes are so much higher. I'll certainly see it, but I doubt it will reach the heights of PoA.

I wish they would do these movies like Lord of the Rings. Ie make them 3 to 3 and half hours long, or at least film a bunch of extra scenes and come out with "Extended Editions" that are more complete ala LotR.

OotP was a long book, but so much can be excised without damaging the story, IMO. Rowling explores several pointless tangents and is very uneven with her writing. It varies from mechanical, straight plot, to segments of endless and pointless description. If any of the books could benefit from a stronger vision in the film, I think this is the one.

Ever since they got away from a literal depicition of the book onscreen and moved to creating interesting movies that stand on their own, I've enjoyed them more and more.
This trailer looks fucking awesome, and if even half of that stuff had ended up in the movie I would have been stoked. This completely blows the current trailer out of the water and I cannot not wait for what has the potential to be the best HP movie to date.

Goddamn CGI. Why can't they just use a real Phoenix and magic energy rays?

When I saw Spider-Man 3 at the IMAX, they had the trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix IMAX. For the IMAX theaters with 3D, the last 20 minutes of the film will be in 3D. w00t!

I just noticed on the wikipedia page for OoTP that the running time for the movie is 138 minutes.
Looking at the previous movies' running times:
Sorcerer's Stone: 152 min
Chamber of Secrets: 161 min
Prisoner of Azkanban: 142 min
Goblet of Fire: 157 min
OoTP is the longest book in the series, but it has the shortest movie running time. The GoF movie had a lot of stuff missing that was in the book, and it is 19 minutes longer than the OoTP movie. How much content is going to be missing in the OoTP movie???

The big problem with GoF wasn't that they neglected to include all the subplots, but rather that they bothered to introduce most of them and then neglected to follow up on them. OoTP could work if they focus specifically on the fight between Harry and what's-her-face from the Ministry, and then of course include the entire climax. But if they start throwing in stuff with the nosy reporter and all that, it will feel like a mess.

Goblet of Fire felt rushed, empty, and lacking in a lot of the novel's charm. My absolute favorite scene in the book was during the dragon fight sequence ...
To have that sequence cut from the film really doesn't do that tensely enveloping scene justice.
I think it all depends on the director, as well. Remember, Cuaron only took a shade over 2 hours and 20 minutes, compares to the nearly 2 hours and 20 minutes behind Yates' adaption. Some of the material in Prisoner was undoubtedly snipped, but it was still cohesive and very, very sharp. And, with the 5th film in mind, they've hired him on to do a 6th - hopefully for a reason beyond a lower $ sign.
