My very short review:

Planet Terror: AWESOME

Death Proof: An absolute bore

By the way why does Tarantino feel the need to have a role in every one of his movies? He's a shitty actor and should stay behind the camera

Really quickly..

Planet Terror: Good fun.

Death Proof: When you take away the useless usual Tarantino exposition you have a good 20 minute film.

I definately felt the same way after watching the flicks. It really did seem the trailers had far more nudity then the actual movies. Some of it was probably because to many "name" actors were used and it took away some of the feel of a grindhouse movie.

The hour of useless dialogue is not worth it.

Corrected.

Seriously, half the pics I see her in she looks like the Joker's illegitimate love child. I'm not sure if it's plastic surgery or the meth addiction, cuz I remember thinking she looked hot in Wild Orchid (after scraping off the 30 foot deep layer of makeup they always seemed to wear).

To me it wasn't useless. A lot of plot points are put into motion and we learn a lot about characters. I mean how do you learn about people in real life? You hang out with them, not watch things happen to them from a distance. I found the second group of girls to have better dialogue, and were more likeable, but I think that was the point. It seems like the audience isn't supposed to like the first group all that much anyway.

It worked for me.

Boy, did I have an interesting experience seeing Grindhouse. I went to see the 3pm matinee. I got there 10-15 minutes early and it was looking like I was going to be the only one in the theater. About 6 people came with 5 minutes before starting time, so there went that. No big whoop, that usually happens. So either the real trailers or first fake trailers start with Cheech, and about 3-4 black people in their 20's show up. They continue to talk through the trailers, but what can you do? The first movie starts, Planet Terror. They quiet down some. Now, some of the more over the top moments start up right after Freddy Rodriguez's character puts the wooden piece of chair or table leg on Cherry's stump. So the black chick screams out "Oh, helllll no!". Alright, I say to myself, the movie is called Grindhouse. I shouldn't get too mad, it's not like this is an important film or oscar winning drama. I just try to ignore things. Throughout the rest of "Planet Terror", about ever other minute, the black woman keeps screaming the same "Oh, hellll no!", and laughing like a loud maniac. I think that's all she knew how to say. From about the time the missing reel scene happens during the love scene, I couldn't concentrate on the most of Planet Terror, not that I needed to pay attention to the dialogue or anything. It was just annoying. I wasn't about to say anything, as I don't want to be shot over a movie. Most likely, the black woman would have got her boyfriend and the other black people to beat my ass. It was just this one woman, but boy was she annoying. So I missed exactly what Bruce Willis was saying about Bin Liden. Planet Terror shows "The End" on screen and I hear the black woman say "That was so stupid". The rest of the fake trailers(Thanksgiving, Don't, etc.) ends and "Death Proof" starts. All the sudden, I notice how quiet it is. I look over to where the loud black woman was with her other friends, and sure enough they were gone. Praise God, they left! My personal thoughts are that they didn't understand what they were seeing and thought the movie was over when "Planet Terror" was done and left. That reminds me of some of the earlier posts of people saying how many people left and didn't come back after the "Planet Terror". So I was thinking about this "Oh, Hellll no!" walking stereotype of a woman and how she said "that was so stupid". She didn't get that the movie was supposed to be bad, it's an homage to Grindhouse type movies. It's not like I'm that old either. I'm 24, I wasn't even born when movies like this were playing, but I'm a big film buff and try to know the history as much as possible. I don't know what the point of the above rant is other than how the theater experience can really suck these days along with how stupid American's are that can go to a movie and not understand what the whole deal was about.

I enjoyed Planet Terror very much, but by the end of Death Proof, I felt sorry for Kurt Russel and wanted to see him kill the women. I have to agree that the dialogue in Death Proof just wasn't up to Quentin Tarantino standards. There wasn't any real memorable lines. Even the Kill Bill movies had some memorable quotes.

P.S. I've had more bad experiences with white people than black people in movie theaters, just this experience was right out of a stand up comedian's routine.

That isn't how real people talk, at least I hope to god not. It was a convoluted mess of ideas that were so boring I can't recall a single topic either group of girls talked about.

So you know how everyone talks? Maybe it was boring for you. I think everyone who has read this thread understands that you didn't like DP. We get it, I'm just not sure why you are hell bent on making everyone hate it too.

I felt like that intially, too, but thinking about it more I really like how it ended, I mean it was just so crazy and exciting. It's really funny to think about it as well. The more I think about Death Proof the more I like what Tarantino did with it.

I really want to see Grindhouse again before it leaves the theatres.

Honestly, I actually wish there was some of this going on in the theater I saw it in.

It might suck just to have one person doing this, but I wanted a true grindhouse experience with people yelling at the screen, and laughing, and making me feel I was in a real audience participation event.

Don't get me wrong, if something like this were to happen at say, "notes on a Scandal," I'd be pissed... But Grindhouse? That was what I was looking for.

That's precisely what I got both times I saw it, great audience reaction (especially to Thanksgiving and the finale of Death Proof).

Of course no girls talk like that. I wouldn't have minded it if QT's writing was up to snuff though. However, it was just so poor that nothing stood out but the badness. I can't remember much of what they talked about either. I just wanted Kurt to kill them quickly.

I still love the movie though, and want to see Grindhouse again this weekend. I do think QT, while not dropping the ball, at least fumbled it with lazy writing.

Yes, it's floating around. The imdb.com message boards had some links to it which is where I found it. Shouldn't be too hard to come by.

I loved this movie - all of it. I grew up watching cheesy drive-in double features so this brought back so many memories. I only wished I could have seen this at a drive-in with speakers hanging from my car window.

I know the difference between a good crowd and a bad crowd, it was a bad crowd. I've been at the premieres of Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 where the crowds were cheering at the right parts, this woman said the movie was stupid and left. There's a difference.

Just curious as to how your crowds reacted when
Spoiler:
the kid shot himself
.

There were immediate laughs at first, but then everyone in the crowd just felt downbeat as hell when
Spoiler:
she was still carrying his dead body around with her
