The first NT was good, hopefully this one is too.

So I caught the midnight showing for NT:BoS. It was enjoyable throughout. It's as preposterous as the original. It's pretty much the same story (though more "personal" I suppose), but hey, isn't that the point with these sorts of movies? Good action and goofy humor. There is a part that has to do with "balance," and it just might be the silliest scene I've ever seen in a movie. Still, if you liked the first one, I can't possibly imagine why you'd not like this new installment. If you didn't like the first one, this one isn't going to win you over.

It is definitely looks to be one of those "more of the same" movies, based on the trailer, and that is exactly why I am looking forward to seeing this. The first one was a lot more enjoyable than I expected. My only gripe would be that Nicolas Cage's hair (from what I see in the trailer) looks weird in NT:BoS :|

Nic Cage is like Tom Hanks, hair-wise. I can only take him seriously in a film if he has his standard haircut (ala The Rock, National Treasure, Face/Off). Any deviation from the norm just ticks me off :) Same with Tom Hanks' hair in The DaVinci Code ... of course, that whole movie just ticks me off :) |
Saw the second one last night and actually liked it better than the first. I think the characters draw you in more this time. It made me think back to the first time I ever saw Goonies...I knew I was being ridiculous being nervous for the characters, but damn me if I wasn't on edge for the action sequences. In any case, good show, and I think Justin Bartha is about to be a break out star. He was my favorite character in it.

Since they didn't have to get the audience up to speed on the characters (their background, their strengths and weaknesses, their idiosyncrasies), this film was plot-plot-plot with sprinkles of funny sight-gags and humor to move things along. So, you basically know what you're going to get with a film like "National Treasure 2", echoes of the first installment, but more of it, and it's a little bit funnier and faster-paced. It's a pretty good 2 hours at the theater.
I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B. |

OK, so Riley has just left the bathroom stall so he had armloads of electronics with him... so how was it easier to run a red light, tap into the police network, and get a copy of the traffic cam, than to pull out a digital camera from the pile o'electronics?
Also kinda lame that they broke up Cage and the chick to create "will they get together?" tension like they had in the first. Other than that... fun movie. |
I was enjoying the extra screentime with Diane Kruger (the White House oval office scene was nice), plus they had her put in sensible shoes as they were always on the run, but her accent was somewhat all over the map at times.

Just saw this tonight. It was entertaining but it was pretty much EXACTLY like the first movie but with a different treasure ans also WAY over the top.

My wife had never seen the first one, so we watched it Thursday night and then saw the sequel last night. Great little movie. Loved the humor and the pacing, but it was just as cookie-cutter as the first one. Spoiler:
Oh, and I wondered the same thing about the traffic light and why they didn't use Riley's camera (unless it wasn't really a camera, but a shell holding some other equipment). I liked Bruce Greenwood as the president and his scenes with Ben. Jon Voight and Helen Mirren were great together (although it did seem forced). All in all, just as good as the first. *** out of ****.

... I was bored so I made this:

I hope the goofy short is on the DVD when it comes out. BOS wasnt bad but it was just a rehash of the first with a new villian and new locations. If they do a third, hopefully they do something different.

I liked it, it was a quick paced fun movie.
If you liked the first one, then you really know what you're in for, cause its mostly the same thing with a new wrinkle here and there (different treasure, extra relatives, relationship woes). My only real gripe is that they dropped the ball when it came to Ed Harris. He was almost superfluous to the plot, its like they felt they needed someone who also wanted the treasure so they just drew up stock villian #12 and dropped him in every X number of pages. |

Yea I agree about the villain, it was very unnecessary. |
More of the same
I saw this last night after my entire family wanted to go. I liked the first movie but it's not something I would want to own. The Goofy short in front was probably the funniest part. That's not to say the movie wasn't good, but it really, really loses steam in the last act. It was very entertaining until
Spoiler:
and as someone mentioned before, the oil/fire scene was terrible. Overall, pretty entertaining but maybe a bit too long. I'd recommend it if you have any interest. |
