Is it safe to say that Jim Carrey's career is pretty much over?

Those 2 films actually look good. Maybe Carrey has a career in more personal lower budget films. That is unless he gets a juicy role in a Tarantino or Iñárritu film and gets an Oscar nod.

Yeah I would probably have the same career trajectory. Do movies, make money, semi-retire at 45.

I personally thought he was pretty great in Burt Wonderstone, but not a lot of people saw that.

Both good mentions...just saw Burt Wonderstone for the first time recently and thought it was better than average. Kick-Ass 2 wasn't as good as the first but Jim Carrey was probably the best thing in it.

He needs to get a good television gig. I think he would be good on a "True Detective" type show.

Burt Wonderstone was awful and he was awful in it, although I don't blame him as much as the director.

Other than that though, yeah it's a near-dead career. Of course, he was dead to me the moment he started regurgitating then-girlfriend Jenny McCarthy's anti-vax bullshit.
Lest we ever forget his super-creepy online proposal to Emma Stone :

i still think The Truman Show is a quite perfect role for Carrey. loved the part and movie and one of my all-time favs. still thought he should have been nominated for Oscar. he did win Golden Globe i think and Harris was nominated for Oscar, but i thought Carrey was sublime...

Maybe he does not have the chops or letting go of the ego to reinvent himself as a supporting actor or just give up and get a crappy sitcom on CBS.

He was a supporting actor in Burt Wonderstone at least. I think he has enough money that he doesn't have to take a lot of jobs anymore and is enjoying life.

You are probably the only person to think that Dumb and Dumber Too was witty.
And I don't give a fuck if you felt that way in 2007 or even in present day 2016.

I don't think his career is over by a long shot. I see some more dramatic roles in his future, and possibly an Oscar.

Maybe though he probably found some success with I'm Dying Up Here but this interview does not help.

Spending time with Jenny McCarthy will do that to a man... though he's been concentrating on his artwork.
