What was wrong with the eighties: Women wearing corporate Godzilla suits with padded shoulders wider than their ass, with big hair and track shoes, living some unholy "Dynasty"/"Dallas"/"Mommie Dearest" control fantasy:

The horror... the horror!

"Women go to work in those corporate Godzilla outfits: skirt suit, track shoes, shoulder pads. Those shoulder pads designed to ''Knock men outta my way! I can do any job a man can do and I can give birth while doing it!''" - Comedian Allan Havey

In addition to Jaws and Star Wars pioneering the late 70s phenomenon of popcorn films, I would like to add one more to the list...

Superman: The Movie

I agree with the output of quality 80's films other have posted.

Some American financed films from the 80's I think are noteworthy - That I haven't seen mentioned.

Decline of Western Civilization
Drugstore Cowboy
Full Metal jacket
The Long Riders
Manhunter
Ms. 45
Ninth Configuration
Pennies From Heaven
Repo Man
River's Edge
Runaway Train
Salvador
This is Spinal Tap
To Live and Die in L.A.
Last Temptation of Christ
Sid & Nancy
The Thing
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Star '80
At Close Range
Down By Law
Lost in America
Midnight Run
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
An American Werewolf in London
The Shining

There is a definite nostalgia for all things 70's with me: and I definitely loved that book "From Easy Riders to raging Bulls." But I think there is an equal amount of excellent film that was made in the '80's
