Re: Shazam! No, not Shaq's Kazaam sequel..
Like I said in the future DC thread, this is great casting. I hope they get a lot of use out of him, like Loki.
Who can they cast for Shazam though?

Update Noon EDT: And that didn't take long to build, as Variety has some more details, though again, these are sourced and now directly from Warner Brothers. The trade reports that Darren Lemke is writing the script of Shazam, with Dwayne Johnson listed as the star, playing the role of Black Adam. They describe the character as "more of an anti-hero trying to clear his name than a villain." They say that Lemke's hiring is a new one, but that the film may be fast-tracked once he's finished with the script.

Re: DC Comic's Shazam S: Dwayne Johnson
I was halfway down the first page when I realized this thread was created in 2007. Has a Shazam movie been in the works that long? And his name is officially Shazam now in the New 52. Captain Marvel no longer exists (except for the Marvel Comics character).

I'm very happy they finally got this done with the Rock as Black Adam. Virtually everyone thought he'd be perfect in the role. He's a very complex villain with an interesting backstory.
I think now we understand why WB changed his name to Shazam. They would not legally be allowed to title a movie "Captain Marvel." It's almost a certainty that Disney attempts to make a Captain Marvel movie with the Marvel heroine.

Also.... WB wouldn't want people to think they were related.
Really interested to see where Sackhoff goes in the MCU. She'd be an awesome Carol Danvers.

Amanda Waller was changed into a hot skinny chick because hot skinny chicks look better on TV/movies than an obese woman.
Cyborg replaced Martian Manhunter in the Justice League to add racial diversity to the cast.
Captain Marvel's name was officially changed to Shazam to avoid legal trouble with Marvel, and also the general audience already thinks his name is Shazam anyway.

I think Cyborg was added for two reasons:
1. Easy to rip off Iron Man's success. Think toys!
2. Easier to introduce in the movies instead of MM.
CM/Shazam name thing went down a long time ago I believe before the new 52.
I'm upset that they changed Waller because I would have liked to actually see CCH Pounder on screen in Justice League instead of just using her voice. She was perfect for that character.

Here's an odd decision. This is NOT a part of the DC cinematic universe: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/337...movie-universe
So much for a fully inter-connected DC Cinematic Universe.
With New Line Cinema set to produce the upcoming film adaptation of the DC comics title "Shazam," rather than Warner Bros. Pictures, it probably shouldn't be as surprising as it is to hear the news that "Shazam" will NOT tie into the larger cinematic universe in which "Man of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" interconnect.
New Line president Toby Emmerich spoke with Entertainment Weekly today, and he revealed why that is the case:.
"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies. (It) will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real."
Asked about the hiring of Dwayne Johnson as the villain Black Adam, Emmerich says:
"Black Adam is a complex character. The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne's take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun."
Warners has distributed all of the recent DC Comics adaptations thus far and in more recent comics Shazam is a member of the Justice League, making his absence rather strange. Then again, Warners is developing a "Sandman" film that isn't expected to tie in with the DCU either.

This will come back and bite DC in the ass. Less popular characters like GOTG did well as a movie because they were connected to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, and people knew this going into it. If Shazam isn't part of the DCCU, then many people are just not going to care enough to go see it. These days people are going to expect superhero movies to be connected to a larger universe.

Damn. Was hoping for a superman/Black Adam tussle down the road. Too bad.
Still excited to see The Rock's take on this though.
BTW, is there any development going on with Sgt. Rock?

Wtf. That is so goddamn stupid.
Do they not see the potential of that character being along with Supes?!
Jesus, WB. It ain't that fucking hard to make these connected.

You don't even have to go as far back as JLI, isn't Shazam part of the current Justice League in the new 52 too?

Shazam isn't connected to the DCU because everything in the DCU has to be deadly serious, because THAT'S what makes the MCU so popular!

This is a shocking development. WB continues their string of dumb DC-related decisions. As I have written in the past, their executives have absolutely no feel for superhero movies. Keeping this one walled-off from the DC universe is a colossal mistake. Black Adam is one of the coolest villains in the DC universe, which he is now prevented from becoming in a Justice League movie.

After the Ant-Man debacle I'm okay with not forcing everything into the same universe.
