I just finished watching it and I didn't think it was that bad. What a lot of people seem to be missing is the fact it was a bedtime story/fairy tale and had a fairy tale approach to things. I think the problem is he started out w/ a couple of great movies and it's very hard to live up to and maintain that sort of reputation. I do agree w/ two points a lot of the detractors have made though, casting himself in one of the central roles and the very blatant attack on critics were a bit over the top.

It's irritating to see people still going on and on about the twist when he's made three films in his career without it. Since he hit the big time, two of his films, Signs and Lady in the Water, have had no twist whatsoever. According to the script review, neither does The Green Effect, so when is this incessant whining about Night being a “one-trick pony” going to stop?

He needs to stop casting himself in important supporting roles. I'm a Night fan. I own all of his movies except lady in the water...I thought it was dribble. The whole thing with the movie reviewer was just stupid and not necessary.

As mentioned that was one of the things that bugged me too. Reading some of the complaints from people though they seemed to be taking the movie way too seriously.
