Movies you would like to see in theaters again, or for the first time...

I'd like to see Kill Bill in a theater. Wish I'd seen it there first.
I'd like to see the extended cuts of the LOTR movies in a theater, just not all three at one setting.

Watched it again last night on TCM, and man, this is one I'd love to see in a pristine print on a big screen:
The Big Country
Fortunately, I have seen most of my favorites on the big screen:
every Kubrick film except Killer's Kiss (and Fear and Desire of course)
nearly every Bunuel I've seen
every Tarkovsky except for Solaris
Playtime of course
most of my favorite westerns
and a host of others...
Presentation quality differs with the myriad theater offerings, but it's one of my favorite things about Chicago. There's always some classic playing somewhere.

I got to see 2001, Lawrence of Arabia and Ben Hur at the Uptown in Washington DC over the past few years. Usually every fall they take a classic and present it on the big screen for one week. all three had the overture and intermission (actually i don't think LOA has an overture but the point is still the same). huge screen, great sound and one dream come true in the case of 2001.

You'd have to get to the theatre on time, because Hitchcock had a clause that no late comers for Psycho would be admitted.

I'd say the Indiana Jones movies. Star Wars gets 50 re-releases, but where's the love for Indiana Jones? They need to be seen more.
Blade Runner. I was too young when it came out to get permission to see it in a theater.
Planet of the Apes. It was before my time to see that one in a theater.
Forbidden Planet and The Day the Earth Stood Still....I would like to go back in time and see those on first run. I imagine it would have been exciting to be in that audience.

well, the AFI's screen doesn't curve like the Uptown, I would think the Uptown's screen is actually larger. Screen-image brightness is better controlled at the AFI. Sound is better at the AFI, since one, it's THX certified and secondly the numerous surround sound speakers aren't configured like the (Uptown's: surround speakers placed in front of the balcony and reverbed from the front seats to the back), speakers at the AFI appropriately 'surround' the listener.

I never ever go to the Uptown anymore. Those seats are toture. The most uncomfortable chairs ever. And anyone sits behind you, count on this tap dancing on the back of your chair the entire movie. Because there is ZERO leg room. Sucks!
I still on plan on seeing 300 at the Uptown when it opens this Friday. Damn DC for no commercial (non-museum) IMAX screen!

Unfortunately, AMC just closed it's last single screen East Coast theater - all those great movie going experiences at DC's Uptown theatre are a memory worth having - it's unclear if another chain might take this over; but what a loss for Washington DC and the large movie palaces of yesteryear

Bummer. The single screen movie palace near me is currently closed for refurbishment, but they say they’ll reopen in spring. It’s the Lido Theater in Newport Beach.
