I saw the film 12 times in theaters and is one of my all-time favorites. (Yes I know, the film is basically reviled and regarded as a total piece of shit. To each their own - I love it as much as I did when I first saw it opening day 10 years ago)
The scene described sounds interesting, but never existed in this film.
Jasmine (Vivica Fox) wasn't married to Captain Hiller (Will Smith) when the cities were destroyed. Hiller had the ring (it had two dolphins on it) but hadn't proposed by that time. It was last minute.
The DVD contains both versions of the film that have ever been released - there are no more alternate versions unless one counts other countries' censorship edits that many films undergo.

I love this movie too, works great, and I love the build-up.
Pretty lame they waited so long before they used, or tried using, nukes, though. Lots of plot flaws, but it's a very entertaining movie and I like the casting. Great scenes with Jeff Goldblum and his dad and the rest.
