2007 Golden Globes Discussion Thread. (Movie Edition)

20 minutes and counting.

I really like the GG's. It is all about the awards. No routines, schtick, dance #'s. Just celebs and awards. Pretty good night imo.

Just hope the ones that I want win, if not i'll still enjoy, but will be mildly disappointed.

Yeah, a singer, winning an acting award for playing a singer...

HistoryProf 01-15-07 08:07 PM

and now Eddie Murphy for the same movie...and Meryl Streep for Devil Wears Prada

this is all pretty low.

Patman 01-15-07 08:14 PM

I've never understood why people take the GG's seriously when you consider who the voters are in this enterprise.

Mr. Cinema 01-15-07 08:20 PM

Definitely. The SAGs and DGAs are far more important and respected.

Jamezuva 01-15-07 08:21 PM

Is it just me or did Cameron Diaz say "The Departed" was based on "InTernal Affairs?"

She sure did...

I don't know who deserves any of the awards, and neither does anyone else including the people who vote on them. That goes for the Golden Globes, Oscars, Guild Awards, Critic's Choice, and People's Choice Award. It's impossible to decide which performance is the best. It is not something you can quantify.

Having said that, Eddie Murphy was the best thing about Dreamgirls. So I'm happy for him. He's as deserving as anyone else.

Jamezuva 01-15-07 08:48 PM

really wish Clint Mansell woulda won for "The Fountain" :(

Jamezuva 01-15-07 08:54 PM

 I think this'll be the last time they go to commercial with the camera facing the exiting winner....poor America

that was funny.

funnier was that everyone from dream girls won except beyonce.

dpz301 01-15-07 09:09 PM

and by balls, i mean artistic vision.

Patman 01-15-07 09:30 PM

Sascha Baron Cohen is really grossing me out...

Forest Whitaker was really taken aback, he needed a few moments to collect himself.

I'm surprised that Babel won for the best film (drama).

I guess she is in love with Andy Garcia. ;)

hardercore 01-15-07 10:22 PM

Best Picture: Babel.

Can't say I'm surprised. But I am super-pissed.

I really hope this doesn't beat at "The Departed" at the Oscars. That would be a shame.

Jericho 01-16-07 12:21 AM

The Departed didn't do much at the GGs other than Scorsese's win, and the Hollywood Foreign Press has a hard on for him, so that's no surprise. I am a little surprised at Babel's win, though it looks like Dreamgirls will be a big force too.

Zodiac_Speaking 01-16-07 12:49 AM

Babel is surprising win but Dreamgirls??????????

Hopefully, this GG award for Best Director isn't a "we love Scorsese but we know he won't win the Oscar this year cuz it's going to Clint" type of thing.

Outside of that, a quick show.

DRG 01-16-07 01:00 AM

Not sure why everyone is shocked to see Dreamgirls nominated for/picking up awards. It's been listed as one of the awards-season favorites in just about every article or website I've seen. I haven't seen the movie so I have no opinion on it one way or another, but its 'award potential' has been shoved down everyone's throats for quite some time.
